Cool. I have a TATL flight on UA metal coming up. Hope they have it on that flight too!

UA charges $23 for the entire duration of the 10 hr flight. A steal of a deal IMO.
Again, AC is late to the game... @john_doe123123 Thank you for the suggestion, John. We'll be sure to pass it on to the proper teams. OR @john_doe123123 Hi John, we recommend you send your feedback to our Customer Relations crew: http://help-aircanada.com/aircanada-...ENU&q5741687=1 OR @john_doe123123 We're very sorry to hear that John. Is there an issue we could help you with? Take your pick! |
UA has very few planes with wifi -- currently only 3 747s and 30 A319/A320.
http://www.united.com/web/en-US/cont...i/default.aspx The reason why the 747s are the first UA widebodies to get wifi is because they don't have AVOD in economy, just communal screens with a single movie playing. (Business and First have AVOD). So I wouldn't say that UA is that much ahead of AC. |

http://www.united.com/web/en-US/cont...i/default.aspx But it is nice to see an airline that's transparent about where things are at. |

Again, AC is late to the game... It seems to be a very touchy technology. Just flew FRA/YYZ on LH and WiFi plaques adorned the aircraft. No service the entire flight. |
Had it free on TK (YYZ-IST) a couple of weeks go, but never had it work on LH equipped planes. Use it all the time on AA domestic flights (though had a dozen free use vouchers) but there's no infrastructure here in Canada because the market is too sparse, and the technology is moving from land based relay to satellite based systems. AC had it on some LAX flights (since they fly over the US for most of the flight) but the take up rate was minimal. So AC is no further behind than most overseas carriers who have been waiting for a provable technology (Boeing offered a version five years ago that flopped because there was not enough demand, and there were technical problems) which appears now to have arrived.
The next generation of IFE is going to include internal wifi that will feed entertainment and web access to everyone with their own tablet, laptop or smart phone. This will be cheaper and lighter weight than the wired IFE we know today. |

AC was well ahead of the pack in installing PTV's ahead of most of its North American competitors.
oh.. and online seat selection... coming soon :) |

Hmm, 33-0. Not that much ahead at all.
Frankly I don't think AC has incentive to put wifi on planes... let's look at TPAC competitors.... I don't think any TPAC flights on any airline that lands/leaves Canada has wifi. |
It makes me wonder, how we all survived flying in the days before AVOD, never mind inflight wifi.

Poor uptake of WiFi on AC...
I don't think they ever gave it a chance.
Had I been them, I would have tried it out on several routes to try and appeal to different demographics. i.e. YYZ - PHX (the Snowbird / golf crowd and many business junkets) YYZ - LAS (business types on the way to conventions) YYZ - MCO (keep the kiddies entertained on the way to see Mickey and business types like those going to LAS) Loved the comment about a UA 744 being ahead of anything. :D |
