Observations. . . .
I was reading the guide and noticed Tango is now specifically excluded from all benefits(Reservation Waitlist, Standby, checkin, seat selection, extra bags, priority bags and boarding)
Have they been enforcing this with Tango? |
Yes Tango is no frills airline which means all extras are optional. It doesn't make sence to have everything same as AC why would it be a discount carrier then? Although WestJet may not have those restrictions at this time because they are competing with AC (or AC competing with WS) but this is how discount carriers work. Example: baggage allowance on Tango is still 70lbs as AC but on SkyService and AirTransat it's 44lbs anything extra is charged per KG

[sarcasm on]
yeah, because everyone knows that discount carriers make ALL their money by eliminating advanced seat selection and denying advanced boarding privileges! [sarcasm off] If AC were serious about operating a true discount airline, they would look at the major difference between the discounts and them - labour costs. |
Hmmm on second thought I am deleting my first thought. .

There is one big benefit when flying Tango that I noticed yesterday. The change fee is only $25 on all tickets. I think it was originally $145, so this is new ... Seems that Tango (and AC) is trying to compete with West Jet, not the other way around.

The change fee has always been $25CAD for Tango. I am personally glad that they are doing away with the introductory advance seating option, with all the equipment changes we saw when we worked Tango it was a major catastrophe.
Fermat, I'm certain that if AC could use non-union labor on Tango, they would. The company's hands are a bit tied in that aspect right now and since that's my job security, I can't say I mind. |

I had thought it was originally $145, but I could be wrong. At any rate, I'd argue that the only reason it is less than the mainline fee is because of West Jet.
