J class bathrooms
 

What is the policy regarding J class bathrooms? Is it ok for Y cabin passengers that are near the front to use the J class ones? Seems lately, I've noticed more and more Y cabin passengers using the front bathrooms sometimes causing a line up. Most of the time, I'm up front but when I am in the Y cabin, I would like to know if it is frowned upon to push back the curtain and use the front bathrooms opposed to walking to the back.

Some flights, they announce that the front toilets are "reserved for executive class passengers." Sometimes they don't and they don't enforce.

That may not clarify what the policy is, but at least, what actually happens, regardless of policy.

Y passengers using J bathrooms is something that is never stopped by FAs in my experience.

I have heard AC FA tell Y'ers to use the front if the drink cart is blocking the aisle... On another carrier, they made frequent announcements that 'XX agency regulations require passengers to use the lavatory in their cabin...'; with a further admonishment against congregating near the cockpit (ie J cabin lav area).

I have seen pax gently sent to the appropriate class washroom.

I was once in my usual seat (13B!) on the YYZ-YVR run and recognized a passenger in 12C. i noticed her ducking up to the Business lavs a few times with no interference from the FAs, and chalked it up to her likely being a regular on this flight. (shrug)

"Official" policy is for Y pax to only use Y washrooms. Enforcement is spotty at best.

On single aisle aircrafts, most crew will tolerate Y class pax using the J class lav when cart is blocking the aisle. Keep in mind that on some flights, the service in economy can take up to 1h30 if it's around meal hours. As an SD, when there is no cart blocking, I will send the passengers in the back cabin.

I have also noticed this more and more lately.
On a recent flight to HKG, there was one women who kept walking through the J cabin to the lav a number of times that I noticed and no one said anything.

Children, the elderly, and those with mobility issues are given some leeway. This thread has been covered many times. Interestingly, I have been written up for politely, and gently, trying to enforce the policy. :confused:

Also another issue is flight attendants that keep sending J psgrs to the middle restrooms on the 777s by stating the ones up front are reserved for the crew or against AC policy. This has happened many times

They do not wish to be seen socializing in the front galley. That's what I noticed many times in the past.

Always used the front 777W/L Lavatory or 763...In fact, FA's suggest to use it (in my experiences TPAC/TATL) if the middle lavatories are occupied and instead for someone to be waiting in line and clogging up the middle space....

Never been reprimanded by an FA for using the front lavatory and I always end up chatting with them while theyre eating and talking about anything and everything under the sun. Perhaps it's just a hit or miss for some pax, depending on the mood? But the front lavatories are meant for J pax passengers not for the sole use of FAs and Pilots.

But speaking of J lavatories, is it just me or are they getting smaller and smaller in the newer planes? I always seem to slouch
nowadays....

But my biggest pet peeve (on a *A flight not AC) is when a Y passenger uses the J lavatory and then sits on the last row of J class hoping that no one notices...

YES! But it was a very empty J TK flight from BKK-IST and almost every J passengers were sitting on row 1 and 2.

And unlike the Seinfeld show, two FA's passed by and looked at the passenger (I was sitting on the last J row 5C A333) and didnt do nothing.

I may get into trouble for saying this...But I personally stood up, called an FA, pointed at the passenger and said excuse me but this person isnt a J passenger and requested for him to be escorted back to Y.
