If there is a policy, it seems open to interpretation. Although ACYYZ points out exceptions for the elderly, etc., I've noticed all sorts of people heading unchallenged through the curtain to the J lavs. In my opinion more of a problem on small planes than the big ones. Or maybe just seems that way since the intrusion is more noticeable.

When sitting in Y, I have used the J washroom for this reason. I wouldn't normally use it, but when the cart is blocking the aisle I don't feel too badly about it.

I may get into trouble for saying this...But I personally stood up, called an FA, pointed at the passenger and said excuse me but this person isnt a J passenger and requested for him to be escorted back to Y.
I can sort of understand why it might bother you (it is pretty nervy), but not to the point where you asked the FA to have him removed. Why does it bother you that much?

Dirty bathrooms

My peeve with the bathrooms on AC, including the J ones which I am most familiar with is how dirty and disgusting they are. I have taken photos of many showing the build up of dirt. They are not being properly cleaned in between flights. Often there is scum buildup around the sinks. Look down at the floors too.

If I've paid for J through points, eUps, LMU, or cash, why should someone else get it for free?

I agree. I meant that it wouldn't bother me to the point where I would ask a FA to have someone removed. I've never done that, but I think it would come off as though I'm telling them what to do/how to do their job, even if phrased as a polite request. It doesn't sound like they're causing me any direct harm and I doubt this is a common occurrence. I could also be wrong e.g. are they just sitting there while they wait for the washroom (say the cart in Y is blocking the aisle), are they waiting to speak to a FA?

Again, I don't think it's right and I probably would be irritated too. But it comes down to picking my battles.

Enforced in almost every airline there is. Vigouosly enforced. Even on airlines like UA & certainly on SQ/LH/EK/OZ & BA. I'm very surprised AC does not endorse this so strictly. Even pmCO long haul aircraft have a velvet rope across where the curtain is (for those that don't take the hint)

I'm not a rude person & would never tell someone myself not to use the F or J bathroom (its none of my business) but on a recent SQ flight, I was the only passenger in F while J & Y were full. Right before landing I got up to use the bathroom & found a line of 5-6 J passengers waiting for the 2 F bathrooms. We were already starting our landing & had maybe 5 min before the seat belt sigh was about to come on. I grabbed a passing F/A and gave her a look that said "I am not waiting behind 5-6 people that should not be up here anyway. I just wanted her to nicely tell the people waiting that they needed to let me go first (I was the only passenger for both lavs). Instead she made them all go back to J which is NOT what I wanted but I got over it

There is a reason F has 2 lavs for 8 people, J has 2-4 for 16-32 & Y has 4-6 for 200+. Your paying for more then a comfortable seat.

I don't mind if Y passengers on AC use the J loo, I mean the FA's on AC don't bother to clean the bathrooms anyway.

as part of next years enhancements, Altitude E50/75/100k can pick a J Class Loo Pass as one of their benefits. You can use J class toilets as long as you have a T+ or Lat ticket.

Love this post. Well done. Is it a Star Gold option or only on AC?

I think it comes down to the following points:

I would disagree about the cleaning. Or at least, when you have 10 people using a lavatory, it stays a lot cleaner than when you have 100 people using it.

One of the benefits of J is shorter lavatory lines. Another benefit is cleaner lavs (as a result of fewer passengers using it). Y passengers using the J lav absolutely affects my experience in J.

If an elderly/disabled person is sitting at the front of Y, and wants to use J because it's an easier walk, or a larger lav, then I can deal with that.

If the cart is blocking the way, then I completely understand why a Y pax would use the J lav, but I don't agree with it. I don't see another solution, but I don't have to like it.

If a Y pax uses the J lav because it's closer, or has a shorter line, then GTFO. You get what you pay for.

Well this was a TK A333 morning flight from BKK to IST this year and morning flights are not packed with J pax vis-a-vis the night TK flight from SGN (everyone was on row 1 and 2 except me, sitting on last J row 5)

Long story short, Y pax went up to to the loo in J (I personally don't give a hoot if someone from Y using the J loo as long as there is no line up...I mean if someone has to go, someone has to go). But after using the loo, he sat on the middle aisle seat across from me and then buckled up.

Perhaps less than 5 minutes later, he then decided to sit on the other row 5 seat on the other side of the plane, buckled up and started reading a newspaper. I saw 2 FAs passing by him, looked at him and by their looks, they were quite confused (I am sure they didnt want to offend the pax as perhaps they probably thought this was just another J pax wanting to sit way at the back for privacy).

Anyways, since Im on the last row of J, I pretty much can see who's moving where and if a Y pax decides to sneak in. At that point I got irritated because to me this pax was trying to scam the system....And if no FA is going to do something about it, then I would.

I know I know, we all have different opinions towards a Y pax sneaking into J or F for free. But I personally do not like it...It only takes 1 person to do it and get away with it, the next thing all empty J seats would be filled with Y pax at the middle of the flight who decides it's "A-OK" to do so and it'll be just a mess with FAs reminding them to go back.

And to answer your question Acnyyz why I got irked by it...It was just how sneaky and sly he did it....Sitting on the last row of J (row 5 has better privacy) when no one was looking and covering his face with a newspaper....
