You can check availability without. You just have to search ANA space first. It's been documented elsewhere.

thanks I see it now. Except now it wont show me my tax and other surcharges which is what I wanted to see to compare to Aeroplan. No way around this, I guess?

Nope, you actually need the miles. You'd have to call the center.
