OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES
Star Challenge 2013 Contest (the “Contest”)
This Contest is only open to Aeroplan® Members who are residents of Canada and is governed
by Canadian law.
1. SPONSOR. The sponsor of this Contest is Aimia Canada Inc. (“Aeroplan”or the”Sponsor”). The
Contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with the Canadian Imperial
Bank of Commerce ("CIBC"). The Contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or
associated with AMEX Bank of Canada and its affiliates.
2. CONTEST PERIOD. The Contest will commence on March 7, 2013, at 12:00:00 a.m. EST and
will run until April 10, 2013, at 11:59:59 p.m. EST (the “Contest Period”).
3. ELIGIBILITY. This Contest is open to all Aeroplan Members who are residents of Canada and
who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence, except American
Express employees, CIBC employees, employees, representatives and agents of Aeroplan, their
affiliates, their advertising or promotion agencies, other contest prize suppliers, and any other
companies engaged in the development, production, or distribution of materials for this Contest, and
members of the immediate families of, or persons domiciled with, any of the above. Non-members are
requested to become a member to be able to participate.
4. HOW TO ENTER AND NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Only Aeroplan Members that register for
the Aeroplan Star Challenge Promotion during the Contest Period will automatically be entered in this
Contest.
Members can register in 1 of 3 ways:
1. Online at Aeroplan.com: aeroplan.com/star
2. Aeroplan Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/aeroplan
3. Mobile (SMS): Members may register with their mobile phone by texting STAR and their
Aeroplan Number to “23333”. Standard text messaging charges may apply from your wireless
provider.
Members will receive one free star for each of these 3 ways of registering to the Promotion.
In order to register, you need to have a valid Aeroplan Number. If you are not an Aeroplan Member,
you can enrol in the Aeroplan Program at www.aeroplan.com/enroll.do. Aeroplan membership is free.
Although online access is required in order to participate in the Contest, no purchase is required.
Many public libraries, Internet cafés, retail businesses and others offer free Internet access.
In the event of a dispute regarding the identity of an entrant online, the entry will be deemed to have
been made by the authorized account holder of the Aeroplan Number, at the time of entry. “Aeroplan
Number holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an Aeroplan Number.
To earn stars without purchase, please handwrite your name, home address, including your postal
code, Aeroplan Number, daytime and evening telephone numbers and include an original handwritten
essay of at least 100 and no more than 250 words as to what you would do with 500,000 Aeroplan
Miles and mail it to:

Limit of one (1) essay per stamped envelope. To be eligible for a star (see clause 6), your envelope
must be postmarked no later than April 10, 2013, after which you will not receive a star and will not get
an additional chance to win. Aeroplan will not be responsible for lost, misdirected, stolen, ineligible or
delayed entries, or those with insufficient postage.
5. ADDITIONAL CHANCES TO WIN
Aeroplan Members will receive additional chances to win by accumulating Aeroplan Stars ("Stars") on
each qualifying transaction with each participating Aeroplan Partner (participating partners and Stars
allocation listed below) or by accumulating Social Stars on Facebook during the Promotion Period.
QUALIFYING TRANSACTIONS are defined as: Members must use their Aeroplan Card or present a
valid Aeroplan Number at the point of purchase and/or transaction, and earn/accumulate at least one
(1) Aeroplan Mile (or as otherwise indicated), in order to be eligible. Stars will not be awarded on
refunds of earlier transactions.
FINANCIAL CARDS
CIBC
Aeroplan Members who are also Aeroplan-affiliated financial cardholders (Primary Cardholders
only) in Good Standing as of February 25, 2013, will automatically earn 5 Stars only once at the
beginning of the Contest Period, regardless of the number of Aeroplan-affiliated financial cards they
hold. The CIBC Aero Classic Visa Card, the CIBC Aerogold Visa Card and the Aerogold Infinite Visa
Card qualify as Aeroplan-affiliated financial cards. (Excluded: The CIBC Aerogold for Business Visa
Card)
Aeroplan Members who are also Aeroplan-affiliated Financial Cardholders (Primary Cardholders only)
in Good Standing as of February 25, 2013, will earn 2 Stars for every $1,000 spent in purchases from
March 11 to April 10, 2013, for each Aeroplan-affiliated Financial Card they hold (to a maximum of 10
Stars). The CIBC Aero Classic Visa Card, the CIBC Aerogold Visa Card and the Aerogold Infinite Visa
Card qualify as Aeroplan-affiliated Financial Cards. (Excluded: The CIBC Aerogold for Business Visa
Card).
Aeroplan Members who are Primary Cardholders (in Good Standing) of the CIBC Aero Classic Visa
Card, the CIBC Aerogold Visa and CIBC Aerogold Infinite Visa Cards (excluding the CIBC Aerogold
for Business Visa Card) will earn 1 Star for every time they pay with their CIBC Aeroplan-affiliated
Financial Card at a participating CIBC Bonus Rewards restaurant (to a maximum of 5 Stars) between
March 11 and April 10, 2013. CIBC Bonus Rewards apply only if the Card is used for payment at

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES ON FACEBOOK
Aeroplan Members will receive Stars for each qualifying social activity completed between March 7
and April 10, 2013 on the Star Challenge Facebook App (“App”) which can be accessed through the
Aeroplan Facebook page at www.facebook.com/aeroplan.
An active Facebook profile belonging to the member is required. Members may only have one
Facebook profile registered to their Aeroplan Account Number for the Promotion. General Terms &
Conditions specific to installation of the App must be accepted in order to be eligible to earn Stars via
Social Media.
Any information collected or received as a result of installing and/or using the App will be used
expressly for this Promotion. A maximum of nine (9) Stars can be earned via Social Media.
Earn 1 Star for each Qualifying Actions completed below:
o Register for the Star Challenge via Facebook and successfully install the App on the user’s
Facebook profile.
o Watch the Star Challenge Video via the App and correctly answer the 3 corresponding Video
trivia questions. Only 1 Star will be awarded for answering the 3 questions correctly.
o Share the Star Challenge Video on your personal Facebook profile.
o Refer 1 or more friends to join the Star Challenge on Facebook. A minimum of 1 referral must
be accepted (the referred friend must register for the Star Challenge on Facebook and install
the App.) Only 1 Star is awarded regardless of the number of friends referred.
o Use the function on the App to follow Aeroplan on Twitter. Following Aeroplan on Twitter
without having passed through the Facebook App will not be eligible for a Star in the
Promotion.

o Correctly answer the weekly Aeroplan Trivia questions. There will be a weekly Aeroplan Trivia
question in the 4 weeks of the Promotion Period. A maximum of 4 Stars can be earned.
MOBILE - SMS
Members will receive 1 Star for successfully registering for the promotion via SMS. To register, text
your Aeroplan Number to “23333”. Standard text messaging charges may apply from your wireless
provider. Only one (1) mobile number may be associated to an Aeroplan Account, and only one (1)
star will be awarded per Aeroplan Account.
Members will receive a text message confirming successful registration. If you do not receive a text
message confirming your registration, please verify that you have the correct number and try again.
Aeroplan is not responsible for any lost, late, incomplete, or misdirected texts.
6. PRIZES. There are ten (10) prizes of 500,000 Aeroplan Miles each (a “Prize”) available to be won
in the Contest Period.
Aeroplan reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion, to substitute the Prize for prizes of
approximately equal or greater retail value, at any time and for any reason, including, without
limitation, by way of cash award. Limit of one (1) Prize per person and per Aeroplan Number.
Aeroplan Miles have no cash value but are redeemable under the Aeroplan Program for flights and
other rewards. The retail value of rewards obtained using Aeroplan Miles will vary depending on the
Aeroplan Reward schedules and other factors, details of which may be found at www.aeroplan.com.
Aeroplan Miles may be redeemed only in accordance with the Aeroplan Program terms and
conditions, which are subject to change without notice. Taxes, landing and departure fees, and other
charges and surcharges may apply to Aeroplan Reward Travel, and are the sole responsibility of the
winner. Full terms and conditions of the Aeroplan Program are available online at www.aeroplan.com.
7. DRAW. Ten (10) winners will be randomly selected from among all eligible entries at the end of
the Contest Period. The draw will take place on or around on July 5, 2013, at approximately 10:00:00
a.m. EST at 5100 de Maisonneuve Boulevard West, Montreal, Quebec, H4A 3T2. Odds of winning
depend upon the total number of eligible entries received during the Contest Period. Prizes must be
accepted as awarded and cannot be substituted, transferred, exchanged or surrendered for cash.
8. HOW TO WIN AND CLAIM A PRIZE. Each selected entrant will be notified by phone or email
and instructed on how to claim his/her prize. To be declared a winner, each selected entrant must: a)
be enrolled in the Aeroplan Program and hold a valid Aeroplan Number; b) correctly answer a
mathematical skill-testing question without assistance of any kind, whether mechanical or otherwise,
on a Declaration of Compliance and Release (see section no. 8, below); c) sign the Declaration of
Compliance and Release and return it to the Sponsor for them to receive it within fifteen (15) days of
its receipt; and d) otherwise comply with these official contest rules. Awarding of a prize is subject to
verification and compliance with these official contest rules. Any Application Form or Declaration of
Compliance and Release which is, as the case may be, incomplete, illegible, mutilated, fraudulent,
registered or submitted late, not bearing an Aeroplan Number, not bearing the correct answer to the
mathematical skill-testing question, or otherwise noncompliant shall be rejected and will not entitle the
entrant to an entry or to a prize, as the case may be. Entrants who have not complied with these
official contest rules will be disqualified. If a selected entrant cannot be located or does not respond or
comply with all of these official contest rules within fifteen (15) days of the draw, the entrant will be
disqualified and forfeit the prize, and Aeroplan may, at its sole and absolute discretion, select by
random draw another eligible entrant whom Aeroplan or its representatives will attempt to contact, and
who will be subject to disqualification, in the same manner. Aeroplan will not be responsible for failed

attempts to notify selected entrants.
9. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION. By participating in this Contest, each entrant
accepts and agrees to these official contest rules and all decisions of the contest judges (who may be
employees, agents or independent contractors of Aeroplan), which shall be final and legally binding on
the entrant in all matters relating to this Contest. All application forms and Declarations of Compliance
and Release become the property of Aeroplan and will not be returned. In order to be confirmed a
winner and receive a prize, each selected entrant will be required to sign Aeroplan’s Declaration of
Compliance and Release form, which confirms compliance with these official contest rules and
releases Aeroplan, CIBC, Amex Bank of Canada and their affiliated companies, agencies, contest
prize suppliers, and their respective officers, directors, employees and agents (collectively, the
“Contest Group”) from all liability with respect to the entrant’s participation in this Contest and the
awarding and use or misuse of the prize. Each winner agrees to the use of his/her name, comments,
photograph, and other likeness for publicity purposes, and grants to Aeroplan any and all rights to said
use without further compensation. Aeroplan and the Contest Group are not responsible for printing,
distribution, or production errors. Aeroplan and the Contest Group may, at their sole discretion and
without liability, rescind or amend this Contest at any time. This Contest is subject to all applicable
federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations.
Accumulation of Stars is on an individual basis and cannot be transferred, combined or shared with
other Aeroplan Members.
10. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. By entering this Contest, each entrant acknowledges and agrees
that the Contest Group: a) shall have no liability of any kind whatsoever with respect to this Contest
and/or the awarding or use or misuse of the prize; b) makes no warranty, guaranty or representation of
any kind concerning the prize; c) disclaims any implied warranty; and d) is not liable for injury, loss or
damage of any kind resulting from the entrant’s acceptance or use or misuse of the prize or otherwise
from such entrant’s participation in this Contest. The Contest Group is not responsible for
typographical or other errors in the offer or administration of this Contest, including, but not limited to,
errors in advertising, the official contest rules, the selection and announcement of winners, or the
distribution of the prizes. The Contest Group is not responsible for any problems or technical
malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, online computer systems or servers, computer
software problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website and assumes no liability for
damage to an entrant’s or any person’s computer or mobile phone resulting from participating in the
Contest.
11. PERSONAL INFORMATION. The personal information gathered about entrants in the course
of this Contest will be used solely by Aeroplan for the administration of the Contest and in connection
with publicity relating to the Contest.
12. FOR RESIDENTS OF QUEBEC. Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of this
Contest may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (the “Régie”) for a ruling.
Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the Régie only for the purpose of
helping the parties reach a settlement.
13. GOVERNING LAW. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity,
interpretation and enforceability of these official contest rules, or the rights and obligations of an
