AC Confirmed eUpgrades - Wanting to Decline

All - Just wanted to know anyones experience on declining/cancelling eupgrades.

Flying LAX >> YYZ >> YOW requested complete one way upgrade - LAX >> YYZ is waitlisted and with no paid tickets available chances of getting it are 0. But they went ahead an upgraded me on YYZ >> YOW...now i dont want to waste 6 eupgrades on this short flight and use my remaining upgrades on chances on the return....

Called AC rez and they said i would have to pay fare difference for cancelling my upgrade....I was shocked but upon review again of the rules looks like this is allowed...altough a terrible CS case since S fares are almost always gone this close to departure...

What are your experiences on getting this upgrade cancelled without getting charged a rediculous change fee and fare difference of about 600 dollars.

Thoughts? Thanks!

isaac

That is the rule, unforunately, see my reply to a similar question:

Airport more forgiving in circumstances if there are open Y seats or any other requests pending in my experience.
