Empress:You don't live my experiences. What benefit is there to me embellishing my stories here? I may have only been AC*E since the fold of CPlus, but I have been status on AC in the past (in fact, I probably have been AP member long before you took your first flight). When I acheived AC*E with the takeover, this was one of the benefits I was looking forward to. I never saw it, so I am not upset that it may be gone. I am not happy with all the changes, and will do all I can to maximize my AP value, and will probably not increase it next year.

If AC is to survive, they need to protect the revenue. Their experts see the AP changes as some ways of acheiving this. I think they're wrong, taht there are bigger fish to fry, but I don't have all the details to judge. I wish them all the best.

I am going to Rio Thursday on a converted revenue seat....but since I "usually" book my award tickets way in advance....getting a seat has never been a problem for me. This is the first time that I've had AC convert a revenue seat for me.

Now having done that.....I wanted to make a change 3 weeks ago and the agent said politely to "forget about it" as ever flight was "oversold" by 30+ pax and changes were impossible as a result. If it wasn't oversold....it would have been no problem to get whatever I wanted.

It's a dubious benefit at best IMHO.

If they're oversold, there are no revenue seats available, so how could they change a revenue seat to an award seat?

Am I missing something?

An oversold flight doesn't necessary mean that you can no longer buy a seat. An airline will still take bookings on an oversold flight, it's just take the SE desk won't give you an award seat in those cases because they anticipate the needs of empty J seats for operational upgrades or denied boarding situation.

I think many an airline will be happy to sell you a seat on an oversold flight.  If you're willing to pony up a full Y fare, they're likely more than willing to reciprocate the favour and bump off a lower-yield pax! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif
