Is it worth it to get 15,000 AP miles for 180$ fee?

HI all - is it worth getting the CIBC Aerogold visa with 15K AP points for $180 annual fee?

What is the calculation to figure out if a promotion is worth while doing? more that 1 cent per point?

Thanks!

why not just get the amex small business gold...$180 fee waived in the first year and 25000 amex points (equivalent to 25000 aeroplan pts)

it is not 180 since you get the card, get the bonus, down covert to a no-fee card and then you should have the fee prorated and put as a credit on the no-fee card...at least that is what i have done in the past.

hmmmm interesting.

Do you do this after the first statement when you receive the bonus?

not sure if they do that prorate thing anymore...i know amex has a clause that after so many months, there's no refund at all...don't know if cibc has the same clause, but better check...

I'm still working to spend $3000 on the amex bus gold and get the 25K points.
I will check if they can prorate the fees at CIBC

If it's below 1cpm, it makes it worth it. I will personally buy miles at 1cpm, as I try to spend at least 2cpm+. It depends how you use your miles and what you value them at, but that is just me.

not to my knowledge but yes, OP should check.

depends on the bonus as to how long you have to keep it...usually 3 months. i did this 4 times but have not done it in a few years....

I may have missed this

why not apply AMEX Personal Gold for 15K AMEX MR signup bonus (or 20K if I refer you )...then you can transfer 15K MR to 15K Aeroplan, for FREE

It depends on what you redeem for. It is a losing proposition to buy high and sell low at any price.
