Changes To Transborder Meal Standards
Effective Dec. 6, we will align our transborder meal standards with domestic product offerings. This means that service will be limited to a refreshment on most flights of less than 3 hours and 15 minutes. For more information, see CIC*65 and 600/65. |

If they take away meal service on flights that are about 2 hours or so, it's still understandable but for flights up to 3 hrs 15 mins, that's a bit too much...

Ohhh.
I agree with Altaflyer, Qantas gave us a hot drink, sandwich, and a chocolate cake thingy..in Y, on a 1 10 min flight Syd-Mel. I have been running up the status on One world, The partners are pretty good. 3 hours is a bit much, for anyone...Plus it makes the trip a bit boring especially for Kids. |
Glad I got that deli sandwhich on my back cabin flight in from LGA last Monday, departing 5pm. Wonder what I'll find out to Edmonton on the 5pn flight on Friday up front? And since there will be no movie, I decided to buy Apocalypse Now: Redux to play on my iBook. Ah, welcome to Air Canada's world...

Does this apply to J class?
|
AC is a no frills airline. Cutting meal service won't save this leaderless company. 1D |
Shareholder, On your YYZ - YEG flight you will have a choice of cold chicken or cold salmon. That was the offering the last four times I flew that route. If you are in Y they throw you a stale roll with some kind of meat in it. Biggles. |
Definitely no meals on the west coast transborder flights anymore, it seems.
Weren't there lots of claims here that AC would never slip to the standards of the U.S. airlines? It seems it now has, and to even worse than some. [This message has been edited by terenz (edited 12-04-2001).] |
Biggles: What time was your flight? YYZ-YEG is at 4 hrs 6 mins outbound and 3 hours 37 mins inbound so I definitely would expect a hot meal of some sort in J if I was flying within meal period. I still remember the good old days when there are meals on all transcon no matter what the time of departure is. Now, no movies and no meals on transcon, looks like those flights are going to be quite boring unless you are "prepared".
Afterburner: No effect in J class, you'll just be seeing more cold plates when you usually get hot meals. Some of those cold plates actually taste better than the hot ones! |
Well my YEG-YYZ flight last weekend(amazing first websaver in week on this run) was
YEG-YYZ - Cold plate in J(operational upgrade http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ) No movie just TV show, didn't pay attention on the 00:30 flight. YYZ-YEG (Dep 9:00 am)- breakfast choice of quiche or fruit plate in Y. Some movie with Leslie Nielsen i think. Dec's Enroute was not present. Based on the way AC has been changing stuff lately, my revised upgrade policy for myself is:
Domestic: buy V or higher so I won't be getting less than 100% Q miles. Transborder:(except HNL) Who cares, just get the lowest fare since I am going to get 100% Q miles and no meal service anyways. In most cases, it'll just be short haul aircrafts. Not worth the extra for V or higher. International: Definitely V or higher so I could upgrade for the comfort. |
Empress, The flights were around 12 noon 1p.m. and two at 5.00 p.m. Give or take five or ten minutes. Also forgot to mention ..No Movie! Just the news and some short features. Had a few beers and slept. Biggles. |
So there is no movie on a 3:37-4:07 long flight, maybe a stale bun and 35% Aeroplan miles for Q and below. Oh, and generally lousy service, particularily on the ground. What gives? There are only so many people willing to pay top dollar for few or no meals, no entertainment etc.. Is there a business plan or are they just doing things "willy nilly"?
Also, I heard on the news this morning that Westjet plans to be in YYZ and YUL and I think YHZ as well by the end of the year. Can't find anything to confim this though. AC needs to get some leadership and let their staff provide service or they will just fall further into the abyss. |
That's what Clive was saying on the talkshow Sunday night, they will be in YYZ, YUL & YHZ by the end of next year.
