Of that total, 25,117 is from flying. So once again, this seems to be a bit of randomness from AC / AE.
How did you get over 200K miles from non flying? Even counting the 16,500 promo, that seems like a LOT.

Also, only 38K earned for me in the period. No bonus for me.

I had 465000 points, of which 260000 were from cc spends/transfers and just under 60000 were AC status miles.

He's got an Amex Centurion card so his spending is $10K a month+++. However, with the cost of awards using AE miles, this would be the last place I'd put my Amex Rewards points.

And yes, I found the 10K special bonus in my account. Had more than 50K in flight earnings since January as well as made a few award withdrawals (all on airlines with no fuel surcharges, but mainly the SQ Fs). Nice gesture from AE, but it would have been nice to have received an email explaining why. AE seems to squander such opportunities to cultivate good will.

I wonder what is the objective behind this strategy of giving 10k miles to some AP card holders... Is AP/AC loosing business with the 2013 top tier rules and the TPAC T fares?

As annoying as the scam charges are, I booked two mini rtw during the summer in J, costing me around 380 per ticket and 125000 miles. 125000 miles is equivalent to 100,000 spent on Amex. Tickets would have priced out to somewhere around 8$-14k each, and that's not imaginary because I would never fly rtw in Y. So, for $200k, I received about $20k in benefit. The $380 in that case is peanuts.

Another way to look at it is that if the 250k points (plus another about 40-50k poiunts lost through not accumulating miles) could be exchanged into around $2500 worth of gift cards, plus $800 scam charges, my two tickets ended up totalling $3300 "out of pocket".

I booked a couple of short haul awards costing $165 in taxes and YQ; they would have priced out to about $1800 ea if paid for. 30000 MR for over $3000 in travel is not bad, either. Needed SE access to get seats.

Where else can I get 8-15 percent "cash back" on my Amex points?

Surprised to hear this advice from a SE!

Don't think that this is one of their duties. No wonder the service of the Concierge is so bad at YYZ. They are busy doing things that they are not supposed to be doing for the SE's while neglecting the bona fide requests from other equally eligible AC travellers!

Could it be they are rewarding those who have maintained status over the years as opposed to those redeeming for award flights? I myself redeemed 120,000 this year and 300,000 last year, and I also received the 10,000 miles.

A friend of mine who works at Aeroplan gave me this info...

"AEROPLAN SAYS THANK YOU TO SELECT MEMBERS WITH A 10,000 MILE GIFT

On August 31st, Aeroplan will give a gift of 10,000 Aeroplan Miles to select valued members.

The gift is to show members our appreciation for their participation in the Aeroplan program. Qualifying Members will have accumulated 50 000 Miles between January 1 and June 30, 2012, as well as redeemed for a flight during January or February of 2012.

* Please note that there is a limit of one gift per qualifying Aeroplan member for the year"

This person also said they forgot to inform members of the promo.

I guess I'm not a "valued" member even though I met all the criteria. Nice

Nope, didn't redeem any during Jan/Feb.

I doubt Aeroplan "forgets" to inform members about a promo. Something's weird.

I feel bad, I wouldnt say I am a valued member of AE to AC. In fact, I probably am the opposite of valued.

Thanks for the 10k Aeroplan!

I bet you Aeroplan would just say you were not "selected" vs not being valued

I double checked -- I had one Aeroplan redemption in January. So the information that you need 50K points accumulation and at least one redemption in Jan/Feb holds true for me.
