Aeroplan has an active promotion for mileage transfers from hotel and car rental programs. Coincidentally, the reward level is up to 10,000.
So it could be that those who got the miles transfer from these programs by habit, or it might be the source of Aeroplan's error.

So who will have the guts to call Aeroplan & ask the question? I got the 10,000 points (my husband did not- he has no status) & was just waiting for those extra points to book my flights to Jamaica. Now should I book quickly & cross my fingers they don't cancel the points??
I have redeemed only 3 flight so far this year- 2 tickets from YOW to New Orleans & one ticket from YOW to London Ontario

I just called the AP centre.
The story they told me is this: "Aeroplan is rewarding card holders that accumulated more than 50,000 Aeroplan miles from January 1st - June 30th. As well as if you flew on a certain number of flights on Air Canada in January and February".
I definitely accumulated 50,000 AP miles in the first 6 months of the year, but I don't recall taking that many AC flights.
***EDIT *** Bottom line, this does not appear to be an error.
***EDIT #2*** I looked in my account and I actually had zero AC flights in January and February -- so, using the information I received from AP -- it appears that if you earned 50,000 or more points in the first half of the year, you got this bonus. I accumulated over 100,000 points during this time. Perhaps those that have posted to have received the bonus should indicate the number of points you accumulated in the first 6 months of the year.

Well it *is* AC/Aeroplan after all.

Does not appear to be an error.
And yes, got this too. Plus, since my account was very close to zero and I'll need another reward with no surcharge pretty soon, for me it translates into cash at 3 cts/mile. Since I don't anticipate I'll be able to accumulate the 95 k miles I'll need before R space vanishes.

May not be an error but any time Aeroplan does something right it's usually by accident.

Very good point. I would also add the point that Aeroplan is the only company that would silently enter people into a promotion without advertising it. Here's a tip to their marketing department -- maybe tell people before the promotion so they can try to accumulate miles to get the bonus.
