Current rule being that passengers without a seat assignment get bumped first. (Read: people on tango who did not pay for a seat assignment.) My take is, they offloaded her because they did not expect her luggage to make it. |

It's not just because she's "no-status" - I got kicked off YYZ-YVR (en route from FLL to YYC, upgraded J) last week :mad: I was told by the FA before we landed in YYZ, and when I called the concierge she said there was no chance for me to make my flight even though there was an hour left. She said my bag had to be on the luggage belt past customs 30 min before connection or I wouldn't be allowed to board, and that she would meet me there. I got to the belt at 29min, and didn't see her, and had to talk to her so I could get put back on to what she had said was an oversold flight. And here's the kicker. I had to spend 30 minutes trying to convince her to put me on the direct YYZ to YYC flight that left in an hour. And she kept insisting I had to go through YVR or pay the change fee (upgraded J). I told her, "no, I paid extra to get a pod seat on YYZ to YVR, I'm not just going to waste time flying to YVR on a 319 or 320, when you have a direct flight to YYC." After 30 minutes, and consulting with another concierge she finally agreed to do it. It was strange how scared she was of AC. I felt bad for her. The other concierge though didn't seem to give a damn about AC or its stupid policies. |
What I Don't Understand...
is how the elite Flyers such as yourself would book a flight with such a tight connection??? it's one thing when I hear this story from some Kettle who travels once or twice a year, but I am truly shocked when I hear about something like this from the top 1% of all flyers in the world.
A professor of mine at NYU and a great expression that he like to use, "children are victims, adults are volunteers"! Experiences taught me, that on domestic flights I need at least a two-hour minimum. International, three minimum. The reason why, because S _ _ _t happens... |

I would argue the opposite. I book short connections, why not? Of course, there is a risk to miss the connection and I am aware of that. But worse that can happen is to end up on a later flight. So why give up without even trying. Additionally, as a frequent flyer, I will end up being taken care of better than grandma. If my connection gets tight, I immediately call the concierge upon landing. At YYZ, I have had an instance whereby the concierge phoned the departure gate to make them know I was on my way, and escort me all the way there. Plus, i have a nexus card. Also, I seldom check luggage. |

What you need to understand is that we frequent flyers already spend enough time doing airport layovers. Domestic connections should not be a challenge for AC unless weather related. Their famous excuse these days? "We apologize for the late departure. This was a result of the late arrival of the incoming aircraft." Really!

If you do not want to get up at 4:30AM for a 6:50AM flight, you want Executive class service on such a long trip, there is only one other option with a 50 minutes connecting time at YVR. Otherwise, you will have to fly out the night before to layover in YVR if you really want a "safe" connection. |

And there was absolutely no doubt through all of this that my baggage was not going to make it. |
