And, since when does AC care if the luggage makes it with the passenger on a domestic connection?

They don't but are they obligated to make it so? I know the luggage needs to be offload if a passenger does not show up but can a passenger travel without the checked in luggage on board with him?

Yes, happens all the time. I was flying on UA a few weeks ago, and after hours and hours of delays and cancellations (and 45 minutes to print a BOARDING PASS), I demanded they move me to AA. I got to my destination on AA, and my bag came on my UA flight a few hours later, and was turned over to AA and then delivered to me. They warned me that my bag would travel separately when my ticket was changed.

No sure I believe that. Might be true if in economy, and even then, if without a seat assignment.

Current rule being that passengers without a seat assignment get bumped first. (Read: people on tango who did not pay for a seat assignment.)

My take is, they offloaded her because they did not expect her luggage to make it.

The agent who followed up with a call to me a few days later explicitly stated that wife had been offloaded due to oversold flight. The bag should have followed on a later flight if that was the issue. It had departed the original destination with the pax so late arrival for bag misconnecting is a line of AC rubbish.

BTW, title thread makes no sense. Issue is with AC, not Aeroplan.

Not that Aeroscam is any good though.

It's not just because she's "no-status" - I got kicked off YYZ-YVR (en route from FLL to YYC, upgraded J) last week  I was told by the FA before we landed in YYZ, and when I called the concierge she said there was no chance for me to make my flight even though there was an hour left. She said my bag had to be on the luggage belt past customs 30 min before connection or I wouldn't be allowed to board, and that she would meet me there. I got to the belt at 29min, and didn't see her, and had to talk to her so I could get put back on to what she had said was an oversold flight. I finally walked back to the desk, and saw her sitting there.

And here's the kicker. I had to spend 30 minutes trying to convince her to put me on the direct YYZ to YYC flight that left in an hour. And she kept insisting I had to go through YVR or pay the change fee (upgraded J). I told her, "no, I paid extra to get a pod seat on YYZ to YVR, I'm not just going to waste time flying to YVR on a 319 or 320, when you have a direct flight to YYC." After 30 minutes, and consulting with another concierge she finally agreed to do it. It was strange how scared she was of AC. I felt bad for her. The other concierge though didn't seem to give a damn about AC or its stupid policies.

I've almost given up even calling the Concierge in YYZ - it's a joke. A regular GA is more helpful sometimes... it's crazy the difference of service between YYZ Concierge and YVR. They are not all bad though - Grace has been fantastic.

What I Don't Understand...

is how the elite Flyers such as yourself would book a flight with such a tight connection??? it's one thing when I hear this story from some Kettle who travels once or twice a year, but I am truly shocked when I hear about something like this from the top 1% of all flyers in the world.

A professor of mine at NYU and a great expression that he like to use, "children are victims, adults are volunteers"! Experiences taught me, that on domestic flights I need at least a two-hour minimum. International, three minimum. The reason why, because S _ _ _t happens...

I would argue the opposite. I book short connections, why not? Of course, there is a risk to miss the connection and I am aware of that. But worse that can happen is to end up on a later flight. So why give up without even trying.

Additionally, as a frequent flyer, I will end up being taken care of better than grandma. If my connection gets tight, I immediately call the concierge upon landing. At YYZ, I have had an instance whereby the concierge phoned the departure gate to make them know I was on my way, and escort me all the way there. Plus, i have a nexus card. Also, I seldom check luggage.

^ Agreed but I also have very good experience with the Concierge at other stations (not YYZ). Those at YYZ are totally useless and hopeless and like to "throw the book" at you when it meant less work for them. I was not SE but was flying Executive class from YYZ to YVR to connect to another AC flight to Asia in Executive First, all paid biz. fare, not Aeroplan redemption or eUpgrade. My YYZ-YVR flight was late making it a tight connection. I was hoping the YVR Concierge could keep an eye on it. YYZ Concierge at MLL bluntly told me that I was not SE and YYZ-YVR was not an international flight, my Concierge service entitlement would not start until the YVR-Asia segment! I was given the Concierge contact information at YVR to call or e-mail them myself! What a joke! I did and was well taken care of by the YVR Concierge on arrival at YVR.

What you need to understand is that we frequent flyers already spend enough time doing airport layovers. Domestic connections should not be a challenge for AC unless weather related. Their famous excuse these days? "We apologize for the late departure. This was a result of the late arrival of the incoming aircraft." Really!

That's outrageous...

I would also add that we are frequently restricted by AC scheduling, not that we want a MCT connection.

YXY-YHZ is a typical example. If you do not want to get up at 4:30AM for a 6:50AM flight, you want Executive class service on such a long trip, there is only one other option with a 50 minutes connecting time at YVR. Otherwise, you will have to fly out the night before to layover in YVR if you really want a "safe" connection.

Wow! I've never had that experience - I have always had excellent service from the concierge at YYZ & YVR.

I have only had to call the concierge due to tight connections for cross border flights, but every time they have helped out and I have never missed a flight.

Many times I have had to leave a message, but calls have been returned pretty quickly. One thing I noticed that really helps when leaving a message is to speak slowly and clearly when leaving a message, along with leaving my aeroplan number and connection information. That way they can begin reviewing and working the file before calling back.

On several occasions they personally move my AVML from one aircraft to another - now that's service!! :D

Yep - I've had that kind of service at YHZ, YVR, LHR, LGA, etc... but not very often at YYZ. Like I said - there are a couple of great people at YYZ - some others not so much. I think I posted in another thread a couple of weeks ago about YYZ issues. I was going to miss a flight from YYZ to YQM coming in from the US because of an emergency landing. The concierge could not even help get me thru security. Didn't even offer to call the gate to tell them I was trying to get there. But I've had other instances where they really were amazing. Not saying everyone at YYZ is bad - but in my interactions YYZ is at the bottom of the list compared to other cities.

My experience this past Saturday in Frankfurt was even one better than that. When I turned on my mobile as we were taxiing in on a delayed Lufthansa flight, the AC concierge was calling me! This was 31 minutes before my scheduled departure, and I had already given up all hope. She called me 5 times in the next 8 minutes, to see exactly where I was, so that she could meet me and whisk me through passport control. It was 15 minutes from when she first called me to when I was seated on my AC flight, including bus rides both from the Lufthansa flight to the terminal and then from the AC gate to the plane (the latter was a "private" ride). The FAs shut the door right after we boarded and the flight still made an on-time departure. Nothing but kudos for the AC concierge in FRA.^

And there was absolutely no doubt through all of this that my baggage was not going to make it.
