Unhappy I though AP redeptions on United did'nt call for the rip off Fuel surcharge!

I was looking at a reward redemption for friend -

EDI/YUL return on United flights EDI/EWR/YUL

It's calling for a Fuel Surcharge of $338.00

Did I miss something?

I though we avoided this using United flights.

It is not fuel surcharge. It is UK Air Passenger Duty of about $210 for business class flights departing UK.

Ive tried it a few times with the same result. Then on another attempt the fee's came down to $200 odd dollars. Weird.

I got a EDI-EWR-ORD-YUL-IAD-FRA-EDI (only availability I could find with the dates I selected)

And get 317$ of taxes (108$ for UK air duty as bigges item), 55$ YQ for the FRA-EDI segment on LH (UA for the rest).

I did the search in AP again this morning and it is still around $200 odd. I'm thinking it was picking up some AC fuel surcharge into the mix. Some IT issue I think.

I hope it is not just AC IT was testing the "new" setting and forgot to turn it off yesterday.

Booked last night 3 business class tickets for Stl-ord-iad-bru-ord-stl with AP on UA metal and paid a whopping $340 (total) in fees. Would have been over $2K on AC or $1500 on LH/AC/UA combo flight.
