Non XM'd B767

Hi all,

I just booked flights from Dublin to Toronto for August and read somewhere that this route is served by the non XM'd B767 aircraft. I took a look at the seat map for my day of travel and it is indeed showing up as a non XM B767.

Does anybody here have any experiences/thoughts on flying on these type B767s?

And also what would be the chance of having an equipment change to an XM B767?

My first time flying Air Canada, by the way!

Thanks in advance,

Kinane

I believe Dublin is scheduled for two XM'd 767 weekly flights featuring International J & Y. If you're dates are flexible, you may want to plan accordingly.

I regularly work those aircraft and outside of the absence of PTV's I quite like them (don't shoot me forum regulars). In fact two of the three are the newest 767's that we fly (recently leased from Hawaiian Airlines) the seats are comfy, large 777 type bins, extra lavatories. They actually smell factory fresh.

Tells you a lot about the age of AC's 767 if the two newest ones have been built in Jan./Feb. 2003 ;)

I'm just not a "glass is half full" kind of guy. You should know that by now.;)

Are your dates flexible? Don't forget that you have 24 hours to cancel and re-book without penalty (assuming you booked online). If you went through an agent they may also be within their cancellation window.

Larger overhead bins mitigate a lot of sins, IMHO. I can live without the PTV, but can't stand having to struggle to get the bin to eat a standard 20-inch roll-aboard.

Unfortunately, I must travel on a particular day... on a Saturday:(.
Oh well,

Thanks for the quick responses

Good point. I flew on one of the non-XM yesterday from BCN. The cabin video did not work - power issues in my row. But for an 8.5 hour flight, the lack of bathroom lineups was remarkable. An extra can goes a long way, and with no real J cabin, anyone can use the "J" can. The overhead bin space is indeed remarkable. the one above us handled two 20-inch roll aboards, plus, plus, with ease and room to spare.

Last year if a non XM767 broke down, it was often replaced by a 77L.

I think it happened once to DUB - which proved to be a major surprise. The 77L's are generally committed to PVG, HKG & SYD in the summer time. More than likely an XM'd 763 would sub in.

That is correct. I remember it happened on one occasion last summer.

I believe it was early August. Missed it by a few days.

Just checked and the AC website lists non XM 767 destinations as "Athens, Barcelona, Cancun, Dublin, Honolulu/Oahu, Madrid, Maui/Kahului, Montego Bay, Punta Cana, Santa Clara and Varadero. (This list is subject to change without prior notice)" -- any chance these jets show up on other routes?
