Codeshare mileage accumulation update
 

Hi everyone

As many of you are aware, there is a bit of trickiness in calculating the number of Status Miles that you'll earn on a codeshare flight marketed by Air Canada, but operated by one of our Star Alliance partners - particularly with those airlines that don't offer a consistent accumulation rate in Economy Class. This is due both to our codeshare agreements, as well as to the fact that Star Alliance member airlines always award miles based on the operating carrier.

I'm pleased to inform you that you will now be able to review the accumulation rate for Status Miles earned on many of our most popular codeshare flights operated by our Star Alliance partners. Beginning today, on the Review Flight Details page of the booking flow at aircanada.com, you will have access to a chart which outlines these details.

You can make note of the booking class applicable to your fare at the top of the Review Flight Details page:
If you have selected a codeshare flight as part of your booking, you can review the codeshare accumulation chart for the airline partner operating your flight by clicking here:
The charts (you can review an example here) reflect the percentage of Status Miles you will earn for distance traveled. As mentioned beneath each chart, should you wish to purchase a specific fare class in order to earn more miles, you will need to contact Air Canada Reservations. As always, all rules pertaining to the Aeroplan program continue to apply.

Also, bear in mind that similar to our broader mileage accumulation policies, these charts will evolve with time. We will certainly be diligent about keeping them updated; however, please understand that mileage accumulation policies are subject to changes which may be initiated at any time by one of our Star Alliance partners.

Note that we currently have charts available for Air Canada codeshare flights operated by Air New Zealand, ANA, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, THAI and SWISS, which can be reviewed directly from here by clicking the name of the partner.

Interesting to note though that the example shows a AC Tango+ ticket on which the LH international segment is only 50% mileage.

There's going to be a lot of unhappy flyers not realizing this until after the flight is completed...

Agree this is good, would be better if the number of miles earned was shown on the review page as well

Those 'unhappy flyers' won't be able to plead ignorance anymore.

Just to confirm:

1. We´ll only continue to see the AC booking class
2. Based on the AC booking class we´ll be able to find out whether that booking class will translate into a 0%/50%/100%/125% miles earning booking class on the operating carrier
3. However, we won´t actually be able to see what the operating carrier´s booking class will be.

Is this correct?

Another question based on looking at the chart for Lufthansa:

The lower AC Tango Plus booking classes (e.g. T, K, L) are not listed at all for international travel. Does this mean:

a) these AC booking classes will always translate into a LH booking class that earns zero miles? (If so, it would be great if another column would be added with those booking classes) or
b) there´s no (easy) system to determine what LH booking class those T+ booking classes would translate into (e.g. could be 0% or 50 depending on route etc.), and are therefore not listed

Sorry, ACTT the only things acceptable is to award 100% miles on Tangoplus AC numbered flights. Otherwise just stop confusing people and show the operating carrier flight numbers and fare code.

There is no way to force a fare code during bookings there?

These stupid games MUST stop. Personally, this makes me hate travel with AC ever more year after year, not to mention having to pay for free award tickets....another story.

It is not feasible for AP to give 100% miles on codeshares since every airline has different rules. So I'm happy about this. This is as good as it gets!

Thank you? For what? Jerking us around with this for over a year and a half and finally putting up a an incomplete chart which may or may not be correct? How about Sq for Z? No miles???

Even senior managers inside AC are shaking their heads over how AC can advertise flights under T+ and refuse to give miles. How about making a reservation system which lets us choose operating carriers? We practically have to pull teeth to get them to put operating flight numbers in the tickets and even the reservation center usually has no clue how to force fare codes.

Did you know that sometimes the difference between accumulating and non accumulating dates is minimal? Sometimes a couple hundred dollars. But it's painstaking useless work which adds to the pita of travelling right from before the trip even starts. It's total bs and deserves zero thanks. Thank you!

Great add and thank you. A quick test shows a gap in the LH chart. Did a dummy yyz-FRA booking and chose the LH flights for laughs.

Shows Tango+, T but when I go to the chart there is nothing showing for T for international. I am hoping it is actually 50% and was left out or perhaps it is 0% like the intra-european. This is a pretty simple example that I would have expected to work. Hopefully just a kink that you will work through.
