YYZ closed?

On board right now 7722 from YXU to YYZ. Sat at runway for a while since ATC in YYZ said planes were being metered for take off due to conditions in YYZ. Pilot rang the bell to indicate imminent take off and then abruptly stopped the engines. Next announcement was that YYZ was completely closed. Tons of pissed off pax!

Seems real on this end. We're now back in the airside lounge. No further instructions from agents. Apparently really windy in Toronto.

Notice almost all the AC arrivals are delayed but most of the other airlines are on time and as far as windy it's probably calmer here than it's been in days. Sounds like somebody is playing games.

it is mostly AC, but there are a few westjet and AA listed as well. Seems to be alot during the 20:00-21:00 time slot so could just be weather.
For now.

Except YXU-YYZ would be Jazz (or whatever they are calling it these days), and not AC mainline, therefore a different pilots union from the one locked out today.

so, according to FlightAware, a real problem. Sucks! 45 pax on the plane, and it seemed most people had connections of some sort.

Yup, and as per Flightaware - approx 25% of all departures are VERY LATE (last update was 20:23)

I can assure you it is runway conditions in YYZ due to flash freeze and strong crosswinds. We are above all professionals with your safety in mind.
