AC pilot suggests passengers fight terrorists

The following is reported in The Winnipeg Free Press and comes from Canadian Press

Airline pilots should tell passengers they have a duty to fight back against hijackers who try to take over their plane, suggests an open letter being circulated by an AC captain and obtained by the National Post.
The letter, a copy of which was provided to the National Post on the condition the author was not identified, said the AC ops manual should be modidied to reflect a new reality created by the terrorist attacks.
"The choice is ours: We can plan to surrender the ship, or we can do the right thing and plan to resist"
The letter notes the airline's current standards on hijackings contain the advice to completerly avoid heroics and carry out the highjacker's instructions - after trying to persuade the terrorist to surrender.
Instead the letter recommnends a preflight briefing with a much different message for passengers. "In the event of an incident in flight where persons threaten the safery of this aircraft, and in the interest, of national security, it is the duty of all adult citizens to offer assistance in restoring the control and command of the aircraft to crew"

The article is likely taken from AA which was quoted in Friday's Wall Streeet Journal.

Th senior captain advises his passengers to fight. Furthermore if the hijacker is armed, to throw a blanket over his head to restrain him, and that the captain will land immediately.

Furthermore the captain says we will be spending the next 4 hours together so introduce youself to the passengers beside you, and in front and shake hands. Kind of sounds like Mass doesn't it.

More later but on business at this time.
