How to read orbits fare code?

Dear all,

I am wondering how one can decipher the fare code on orbitz? Do you take the first letter of the code listed on their website? For example - "S3AR6TP", is this ticket under the S fare bucket; or is there a more complicated way of deciphering this?

Thanks!

First letter is the fare bucket. So it would be an S in this case, a T+ fare.

Generally speaking, yes. At least when it comes to AC flights you can be 99.9% sure the first letter of the fare code is the booking class.

(There are a very, very few airlines where the first letter of the fare code is not the booking class, but but I´ve never come across such an exception with any *A airline)

In addition to the fine information that has already been given, I'd add that fare basis codes are airline specific and would be the same regardless of the distribution channel (Orbitz, Kayak, TA, etc.). Of course, they would be different from one airline to the next.
