CRJ- Need 40-45 out of 50 seats full. DH4- Need 34-40 out of 74 seats full. I don't remember where that was, or even if the numbers are exact, but it was very close to that-- a half empty DH4 is better than a similarly-loaded CRJ. Explains why airlines with seasonally varied traffic can stay afloat and keep routes! I know OS flies the DH4 to LWO year-round, which is usually quite full in the summer, but I've heard from people that in the off season, 25-40% LF is normal, with "C" not even opened! They can't lose TOO much money in the off season- if they did, they'd bring it down to a DH3 or cancel it all together (and funnel the pax to MUC on LH or WAW on LO). |
