I'm not a fan of the price increase, nor of the concept of an AIF itself, but if a $5 increase causes one to fly out of SEA, they must not value their time very much.

love the end line "and runways will be made safer". So, until then, we can enjoy less safe runways?

Screw you, airport authority. Pigs at the trough.

It's $5.60 including HST.

Oh. In that case, the added 60 cents makes all the difference.

So it does. ;)
But seriously - if you live halfway between SEA and YVR, or even 1/4 to YVR and 3/4 from SEA, I would go to SEA if the fares are lower (which they generally are).

Generally, the clinching dividing line is not based upon linear distance, but on that great imaginary line on the 49th parallel. Not many Bellingham or Blaine residents take advantage of YVR being closer than SEA. The traffic bleed is almost exclusively southbound.

SEA is not that bad.

The highway to get there is much less congested than the Vancouver highways and you get a tank of cheap gas at the same time.

They still have be of the lowest AIFs in the country, just look at YYZ, YEG, YYC and YMM.

Airports are expensive to build and maintain, they need revenue fom somewhere as they have no support from gov't.

YVR is one of the better managed airports in the country, hence why thy have kept their fees lower Han most others.

Agreed.

And given the improvements YVR is, has, and will be conducting in the future, I don't mind paying a bit more for a better airport (A/B Pier):

Where do landing fees, rent, advertisment paid by airlines go? Parking fees?

YVR does not have the prohibitive costs of snow removal and they enjoy the VLA landing fees from the Asian airlines.

Not sure how you can say "XXX is better managed airport"

All those fees go to the operation of the airport. The AIF is specific for major capital expenditures and is not used for snow removal at any airport.

If an airport is able to keep its fees low, have good customer satisfaction - compared to its peers, and diversify it's business, I say it is well managed. It is also my opinion based on my experience in the aviation industry working and as a frequent traveller.
