Best odds on U/G: YVR-NRT or YVR-HKG?

Looking at a flight near the end of February, YYC-SIN. The two routings I'm looking at are:

  • YYC-YVR-NRT-SIN
  • YYC-YVR-HKG-SIN

As a newly minted E, I was hoping to use my first e-upgrades on the TPAC portion of the flight.

Which routing would give me the best shot at getting it?

Best regards,

TB-ES

I would say the Japan routing would more likely to get you in J.

Japan, just because the flight is shorter and similar in time to ICN, PVG, PEK etc

HKG is the longest so more people looking to max out the J experience.

My non scientific opinion.

IME YVR to NRT/HKG has been a mixed experience...... really depends on the day you are travelling. I have seen YVR-NRT full in J before and have managed to secure YVR-HKG for 2 people (me - Elite and Mrs GHT with no status) both ways.

Unlike YYZ...... where HKG is almost impossible to upgrade and NRT is way easier....

Good luck

Isn't YVR SYD the longest?

YVR-PVG is also easy to upgrade. My success has been 4 out of 4 as E (all weekdays). Transiting through PVG however isn't as easy as NRT.

Yes indeed if you are connecting onto SIN on a Star carrier, there are many options thru NRT and the others.

SYD not as much!
