100,000 miles in 30 days?
Holiday musing...
The notion of taking a January off to obtain SE status has crossed my mind. Can't do it in 2012, but could in 2013, although of course it would always be tough to measure the value and logic of doing it. (To give credit where it is due, my thinking grew out of the references, a couple of weeks ago, to Dorian's heroic SYD efforts a few years back.)
By rough, purely speculative calculation, I could do the 100,000 miles within one month, allowing enough time between flights to recuperate to a certain extent. And, again very roughly, it would take as little as $9,000 for the flights, plus the cost of hotels, airport parking and so on.
Surely someone else has tried this type of thing. What's the earliest in the year that someone has achieved SE status? What's the lowest cost for doing it? (And of course, the answers will give some clues for destinations, I'm sure.)
This would all be on my own time and my own dime, which is where I start to question the logic of the idea. Just because something is possible doesn't mean it makes sense. And yes, my wife has already given her opinion.

I thought AC didn't do Early Recognition until March or something? I don't understand why AC can't be like other airlines and just recognise you immediately after crossing the threshold.

9 cpm? really?
I don't think that 9 cpm is the best way to get your miles. How much flying do you plan on doing this year, and will you qualify for the status again next year?
I am doing a series of MR;s in Jan to take advantage of TEQM on SFO-ORD v.v many times, but that's because the value of 100k miles and 8 EVIP's is alone worth more than the $1900 or so that I will have paid. Plus, with my normal flying, I will get even more EVIP's every time I fly 50k (4).
Just make sure you use the EVIP's good once you get them!

That's an awful lot of sitting in a metal tube all at once. Now doing in in Jan, weather could mess up your entire plan. But, whatever makes you happy I guess. I rather take the 9k and just buy some seats up front to where I want to go, and let whatever status fall wherever it may land.....but that's just me. Enjoy your flying.
btw...for the record I do enjoy flying , just not 100k in 30 days.

By travelling on a fare that gives 50% COS bonus you can reduce the miles/time by one third - 66,667 miles would do it.

SE I 2013 might be 150K so you might need a month an a half...

you can do AC's K fares to SIN for $1200, yields 20K per RT via NRT... Do it 5 times, for $6K you get SE...... now u owe me $3K in drinks
Technically you need about 15 days to do it..... 30 days if you want a few days rest here and there.....
Arrives 3am on SQ.... and leaves 6ish-am on UA

Or you could fly those routings from SEA for less money.
