If this does turn out to be true, this would hurt Amex MR the most. With AE's award chart devaluation, CO's leaving and now fuel surcharges and impending BA devaluation, the value of Amex MR points has really plummeted in the past 6 months or so.
As for fuel surcharges on awards, yes, most other carriers do charge them on award flights- such as OZ and ANA. This is one of the reasons that ANA awards aren't popular despite often requiring less miles than AE (or UA/CO/US)

I had hoped not to lock horns with you but .....
OP is just stirring the waters with unfounded and irresponsible rumours.
Having read some of you other posts I am not surprised that you take the most negative view possible at the earliest convienance.

In light of this discussion, I called yesterday to book a trip for next summer. I called at 9:15 mountain time with all my flight legs identified -- the woman was so slow and inept that we never were able to book and she said, "well, I am done for the night, so we'll have to call you tomorrow to finish the booking." I said, "well, I want to avoid the LH fuel surcharge that will be charged tomorrow, can you note my file that I called today to book and therefore shouldn't be charged the fee?" Her response was very AE ... they must take cues from AC.
She said I would receive a call at 7am today upon opening of the call centre ... 8am now and no call yet. I will call in a bit and try my best. Oh well, perhaps an even more creative routing is in order!

Although I rarely book LH cause of the mediocre C/F product this is definitely not good news.
Looks like 2011 will be a year "which will live in infamy" as far as AC/AP are concerned!
