Smile SSSS on AC?

Hey all,

There's been recent discussion of the SSSS on the boarding card.

I've never had the designation, even though I've travelled 500K+. How many of you have?

Cheers,

Jan

If it is truly random then travelling more wouldn't really increase your chances of ssss. I.E. Your chance of it happening is the same whether you travel once or any greater number of times

The only time I've ever got one was on the YUL-DEN leg of the SMD3 charter on Continental. I was stunned that you could pull a ssss on a charter.

On a multi-segment journey last year AC issued me 3 BP's in YYC. 2 out of 3 were marked SSSS.

SSSS is code for additional security screening, probing, interviewing and so on. It is randomly added to some boarding passes

If it is random then the chance of getting an SSSS on any particular trip would not change....however as your travel increases then the chances that you would get an SSSS at some point would increase.

What tools are used for probing? That sounds like an invasion of your person.

I find that on TB flights I get SSSS almost 50% of the time.

Seems like it could have something to do with...

Solo
Male
One way ticket
Short notice

A few years ago four of us flying home from the same ship via MSY but on four different PNRs all managed to be 'randomly' selected for SSSS.

I got an SSSS last May on a UA itinerary, YQR-ORD-FLL. It was only my second direct flight from Regina to a US airport (I'd flown two previous flights preclearing in Canada, plus cross by land frequently). I was surprised to get it since I'm NEXUS. I understand that airlines can choose people arbitrarily for SSSS but not sure why I'd be chosen. I booked 3 months in advance and had a return ticket.

I'm sure he means "probing" in a figurative sense. There's no literal probing of your body that goes on in a SSSS.

Buying last-minute TB tickets with cash is a big red flag, too. However you never really know as I have seen lap infants with SSSS before. It is pretty much a roll of the dice.
