TPAC in Y - AC vs. SQ vs. CX?
Question for the forum.
My parents and I will be travelling YYC-SIN in 2012 to visit family. I should have enough miles to book travel in J, perhaps even F. My parents do not collect *A FF miles, and, while they can afford J/F, will not spend the money on it.
They do colloect OW miles - but do not have enough for an upgrade.
Booking the flight through the AC website results in the flights from the west coast to HKG being on AC metal, while booking through the SQ website allows the possibility of a LAX-HKG on SQ metal.
Upshot is, if you had to do a TPAC flight in Y, which carrier would you prefer to fly: AC, SQ, or CX?
Best regards,
TB-ES

I used to fly SQ on purpose from YVR on Mon, Wed and Sat up until 2 years ago when they had service from YVR-ICN-SIN.
I haven't flown CX since the days that they use to be an AE partner so can't comment on the service in Y for them but I hear great things about them as well.

Last week I flew SQ DPS-SIN (Y), SIN-PEK(Y), and AC YVR-PEK in J & Y.
I found the service on SQ to be absolutely excellent. The hard product was good but not amazing. The seats were hard but had an interesting ability to recline more somehow via a second button. I managed bulkhead or exit row every time as I had booked directly through SQ. AVOD always worked and was a bit tricky to figure out, but selection was good.
AC J was obviously great..especially because there were 10 pax out of 40ish seats! Y was pretty good too, though I found the FAs a bit unprofessional and inattentive. On SQ, if you so much as make eye contact they'll stop and have a chat with you..and offer a singapore sling! Perhaps these are cultural differences I am perceiving as service differences. AC Y seats were excellent! Though, again, I did have the bassinet row. The screens in this row will be smaller than other screens, but still perfectly viewable.
Oh, also, SIN is quite an awesome airport. Butterfly gardens, movies, video games, slides, and just 30mins to a casino in downtown SIN. Long layovers ain't so bad.

If you're going to SIN, SQ is the way to go. You're going to have to connect at least once somewhere from YYC so you might as well just make one connection though SFO. AC Y isn't that bad, but there's no reason to connect in YVR and HKG when you can just go on SQ.

SQ is the best, I checked in from SIN on 3 separate tickets and you know what SQ did for me, they tagged my luggage from SIN to BKK(SQ), BKK to BCN(via ZRH SWISS) and then from BCN to YYZ(on AC), I don't think AC would have done that for me at all. Now that (SQ) is an airline with class and then some...................

I've flown a variety of airlines in Y - ones that are reputed to be good to very good to excellent airlines. Obviously I've flown AC in Y as well.
There is very, very little difference in the products offered. Y is Y is Y, assuming you are on a decent airline to begin with.
None is worth an inconvenient route or schedule. On the other hand, if miles don't mean anything, none is worth hundreds of dollars more than another.
Find a schedule and a price you are happy with and don't worry that there might be other people in Y somewhere having a way better experience than you are. They probably aren't.
