Why Air Canada Toronto lounge stinks!
I'm NZ Gold Elite, which means Star Alliance gold. I am writing this from the Toronto airport FLOOR - how nice, since I am flying to Vancouver and then on to Auckland. Just what I needed - to get all nice and dirty before my trip home.
Why aren't I in the Toronto Maple Leaf Lounge, you ask? Because they only provide free internet to their flyers. Star Alliance Gold members have to pay. I'm travelling on my own dime, and I'm already going to have to buy food for my Toronto-Vancouver flight since the lounge has no substantial food in it (soup and salad only).
Therefore, I had to trek downstairs to the public concourse, find a plug, and make myself at home on the nasty floor to use internet to skype my daughter before starting my journey home.
The most ironic thing is that the internet in the public concourse is FREE. And yet Maple Leaf sees fit to welcome its Star Alliance Gold members by charging.
What a wonderful way to see your visitors off. Thanks Air Canada for the leg cramp and dirty pants!

AC MLL does not charge you to use the computers supplied in the Lounge.
I can understand your frustration as I can't understand when I travel in some stations as a *AG and they want to charge me as well for the Wi-Fi.

I find internet fees very annoying, but most of the time you´ll find a computer where the previous user forgot to logout anyway, to it´s not that a big deal.
Apart from that I think the business centers are great, being able to call toll free numbers, print an important document etc. for free is a great feature IMO.

You could get up off the floor and try again.
As for the food, the soup, salad, raw vegetables, bread, cookies and chips although not substantial are enough to fill me up for a flight and are far better than you're going to do in most North American lounges. I believe when you get to Vancouver there are some additional food options for the NZ passengers.

Sorry you're not enamored with our lounge as I understand the NZ lounge experience is very nice. However, I'm pretty sure that AC did a 180 on charging for Internet access. All guests can access the Internet; however, you can pay more for a faster service that is free to AC status passengers.
You could get up off the floor and try again.

The US Envoy lounge in PHL does kick MLLs ... though
But when one is used to NZ Korus, one will not be impressed with any North American offering.
