Most of the SDs do meal orders for SEs first. Last YYC-FRA, on that basis, i counted that al least six of the folks in the front cabin must have been SEs. Four in row A. BTW, SD Diane is very nice.

I had the halibut again. It's quite dry; I don't think halibut is very suited for in-plane reheating. The black cod that they had previously works much better, I really miss it.

On an FCO-YYZ leg some a few weeks back, however, we had a bunch of surly FAs. Only six people in J, but they moved up another three from Y after takeoff. Did not get meal order by status; but then with so few people...

I am sure they moved up employees (illegally I may add as that kind of stuff is totally against Company Policy) instead of revenue paxs!:td::mad:

On our honeymoon, flying SQ F on a reward ticket in 1997 - they made us a special honeymoon cake, gave us each a $100 duty free coupon in Singapore and on our last leg a bottle of Dom to take home....

P.S: I think you have a very valid point.

Is this really that much of an issue now that AC has started loading food at 110% so that they can sell meals in the back? I thought I read a comment somewhere that they were considering uping this as it has proven quite popular. At the same time we're only talking about dishes worth at most $10...

The order priority is nice but frankly I'm just happy when it's done in a friendly manner (some use passengers names which is a nice touch) and goes beyond "do you want chicken or beef?".

Well.. that just takes the cake..:D

SQ.. does that mean Singapore Airlines?

As far as food is concerned.. passes the time while on board.. so pass the buck.. to the FA.

Was on AC133 last night in the last row of J (seat 5A). I have SE status. The SD took meal orders from front to back and was not referring to statuses. She started at 1A and worked her way back to row 5. When she got to my row, she "introduced herself" by stating that she hopes neither of us want the salmon because there's none left. That said, I didn't want the salmon anyway.

Here we go. There are basic guidelines that we are expected to adhere to and like many issues a level of common sense and sound practice prevails.

Officially - meal choice priority is to be afforded to customers holding VIP & Super Elite status. Within those guidelines and those categories I give priority to those holding ACMM (Air Canada Million Miler Status) - to me that is common sense. There is enough of a balanced meal ratio that it is so rare that we cannot accommodate all of the above.

I personally do not take upgraded Super Elites out of the fold. In my eyes, a Super Elite is a Super Elite and I recognize who they are and what they represent. Where feasible, I include the traveling companions of said SE's, as not to diminish the overall travel experience for our most valued customers.

Again, where feasible and not necessarily mandated, I try to follow with Elites, then Star Gold Customers. Sound complicated?? It is - especially when trying to carry out this task on the ground prior to departure in a very limited time frame.

Nice to see a SD who "gets it." It costs the airline nothing to offer this small perk. And for whatever reason some of us really like it. Perfect win-win. And the comment of trying when feasible to accommodate your travel partner is well appreciated too. Because if my wife doesn't get her first choice, she's just going to take my meal :D

The SD on my YYC-YYZ flight Sunday night was excellent - knowledgeable about the wines and took my wife's dinner order at the same time as mine.

This seems to be a contentious issue regardless of the airline. I have colleagues that work for most of the other major N.A carriers and from what I've been told, everybody seems to operate on a similar platform. As far as granting preferred status to those that have paid the most, I'm not sure that any airline manifest gets that specific. In fact there may even be prevailing privacy issues that restricts that information - I'm only speculating.

Actually, United does this. I'm probably going to get the details wrong but you'll get the idea. Next to each name on the manifest is a set of stars.

4*'s is the elite, invitation-only group
3*'s is the highest earned level (1K) PLUS premium-fare pax (although the FA doesn't know why you get three stars--they just see three stars--and this includes both full-fare and discounted premium fares)
2*'s is the middle tier elite and Star Gold
1* is the lowest level elite and Star Silver

No star (I'm concluding) is no status and didn't pay premium fare.

To me, it seems the best of both worlds. Elites still get priority but also full fare pax also get equal priority.

I'm not complaining nor do I particularly care (because if I was or did, I'd do as someone suggest and vote with my feet by walking) but I pay full J (not Z) to fly AC 8-10 times a year and am a Star Alliance Gold. I like 6 and 11 A/K and choose those despite the fact that I know meal orders are taken from the front after SE's.

I'm maybe 50% of getting my meal choice and once back in 11K I had no choice at all at that point.

Just sharing some data points on my AC experiences and the way another airline (although I know y'all hate UA) tries to reward both elites and full fare pax.

(And I agree with whoever said AC's halibut was not meant to fly--like sawdust!)

AGREED!...the Halibut is dryer than Melba Toast and is NOT meant to be on an aircraft..always overcooked and dried out....for this reason I never order it. I wonder if I will be eating Lava Cake twice tonight YYZ-YVR-SYD on #033?...LOL:D

...because some people on here are still bent out of shape because they haven't got the SE and/ort MM'er status and WHINE that they should get served first choice as a meal because they blew there brains out on an expensive fare!...put in your dues, fly a 100K + and you'll get your first choice IMO.:D

It's quite possible to be an SE flying paid J and still not get your first choice.

In 340K paid miles this year thus far it has NEVER happened to me not getting my first choice...now not getting a working POD w full AVOD that's another story!

On my Domestic YYZ-YVR-SYD portion on Tuesday this week, the SD simply took meal orders by seat and row number and didn't offer SE's and MM'ers first choice for some reason???? haven't seen that happen in a longtime.
