RootsAir getting desperate

6J is introducing quite a number of new fares in what I would think as a "desperate" attempt to get more customers.

Terrific Tuesday Specials - Return Fares: Toronto to Calgary from $348 / Toronto to Vancouver from $358 / Toronto to Edmonton (effective June 6) from $348

Only one leg of your fare must be Tuesday

Over-NITE Specials - One-Way Fares: Calgary to Toronto from $179 / Vancouver to Toronto from $189 / Edmonton to Toronto (effective June 6) from $179

Gold Business Class: Calgary to Toronto from $489 Vancouver to Toronto from $499 Edmonton to Toronto (effective June 6) from $489

I may be a lousy prophet but I don't think that they will survive the year. But again as I wrote... I may be a lousy prophet. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Another easy take-over target for Canada3000... this way, Canada3000 will have good business class products with lounges built for them.

Maybe this will happen this winter?

airbus320: Unfortunately for RootsAir, I along with probably many others agree with you..

Why is RootsAir invisible? I was by one of their stores over the weekeend and didn't see any kind of advertising. Apart from their initial flood of newspaper ads, they've just sunk out of sight. If I were a regular traveller, I probably wouldn't even know they were around unless my TA directed me to one of their flights

I agree, Roots Air is becoming a disaster. A huge disappointment. They had a clean slate, interest from travellers, and backing, and they messed it all up. But IMO this is more reflective of the incompetance of their management than of the ability of a small new carrier to compete with AC.

According to a rootsair F/A, the loads are picking up, YVR is doing really well and the loads to YYC are picking up. Do you guys think this is true?

I was disapointed when I offered to switch to Roots. I called up and told them I was a UA 1k an would like to switch for my domestic travel. They wouldn't comp my status without a whole bunch of hoops to jump through. I don't have the time or effort to fax this, write a letter that. Here I am, here is my business, take it. If not.....

Fly Boy May 1, 2001 11:15 am

Indeed. Roots has bungled their incentives for frequent fliers by not dealing with comps and their upgrade scheme (which still no one seems to have details about, if it exists at all) in a timely way.

AC*SE May 1, 2001 1:37 pm

I will have more than enough international flying this year to keep my SE. So I would be perfectly happy to move my YYZ flying over to Roots.

But before I do that, I want to know what I can expect for my money. I still haven't seen my basic card--let alone my MVP Gold card...

Altaflyer May 1, 2001 3:08 pm

Well I was just told my Roots file shows MVP status, which is awesome because my non full fare trips to YYZ will now yield just over 5000 miles as opposed to 1670 - a huge difference I think.

On a sour note it will take 4-6 weeks to get my card!!! I think they are missing the boat in not doing things more promptly, the comp took just over a month.

Village Idiot May 1, 2001 3:29 pm

My question is, why not comp a Canadian UA1k? I do 10-20 YVR-YYZ's per year. Even give me a mid level status and I'll atleast try it out. With no status, not a hope in H E double hockey sticks (Hell).
