The Value of Points

Yes, I know there is another thread but this is to bring up a new twist to the concept. I have been looking at this issue for a while and it seems to me , given the IKK availability domestically and sometimes internationally the new math is as follows:
SE points>Elite points> Prestige points. This gets even more interesting :
Assume SE points are 4c/point (in exchangeable value), then:
E points are 2.5c/point ( E's have some priority seats available)
P points are the same as regular points-- if exchangable at all as there are hardly any prority awards at this level.
Any ideas?

The value of points are what you place on them in your personal situation. My SE points aren't worth a cr@p right now. I have no time to make use of them so they're as useful as teats on a bull. The same goes for eUpgrades.

The value placed on points is subjective.. I place a value of 2 cents a point, because I have the ability to get flights at that.. but from the perspective of the merchant and consumer using a cc, the fee is already included, but the merchant loses out on debit or cash use that would save the merchant fee. From the cc company point of view, it probably costs them 1 cent per point, but they get the business, not another cc company that's willing to give them the points. Probably other possiblities and viewpoints too.. just my 2 cents.

I value my points at 8 cents a point, and I don't think it's SE/E/P-dependent, it's just dependent on your persistence and creativity and willingness to go somewhere outside of North America :)

I'm glad so many people accept a much lower value... more mini-RTWs for the rest of us!

Same here. I am retired, totally flexible and only travel in F or J long distance (like two mini RTWs in F in the last two years :) ).

Now that North America J is 50,000 points I'll likely fly Y within Canada or the US.

I like spending my points on things others here think is very stupid since it upsets them so much and they post their inane comments on how dumb I am to do it! :p  :p

So how many toasters do you have now hee, hee?

But you are right in spending your points for things you need not what others think you might need.

Since i use my points for international family trips in Y, my value is around 3c/mile (going down to 2.5 with the new "enhancements" this Summer  )

Bit of a crackdown on minirtws.. but I would say 2.5 cents for Y on a minirtw is good value.. unfortunately for you and I.. our little adventures is going up in points as I have frequented HI for 8 years, and just booked my next one for next year. Used to just be two tickets, now its going up to 4 tickets.. a bit harder to book.
