Crazy RapidAir Pricing

So, I went looking for fares to go YYZ-YOW on April 11, back on the 12th. About the best I can do for T+ is $555. Just for the heck of it, I checked the WS website. $182, all in.

Seriously, AC?

Still, I'm a sucker for the status miles, so does anyone think AC might come to their senses and put those seats on sale?

There's never a half-empty plane on any of the 4 routes, so no...

IME the WS flights are restricted to specific times on that route and do not allow for same day early standby for free as the T+ fares do. I find the difference in price worth it on the off chance that I finish up early and want to head back to YOW early, not to mention the miles. Might not be worth it to some, but really worth it to me to be home before rush hour and not have to sit in the airport without a lounge.

Personally, I'd go Via Rail. $155 economy, or $231 business. Their reward program is much more generous too.

I started a similiar thread last month...I hate flying WS but $3-400 in my travel budget is too much to pass up..and I agree...smaller planes than years ago making them more packed...no reason for AC to lower the price I guess.

In my own experience, many of the WS planes are less than half full on these routes.

I suspect some of the mid-day PD flights would be less than 50% too.

ACExpress, same crap (example below), you can fly the normal yul-yyz cooridor for 300$ cheaper, and get a nice limo ride from yyz to downtown for the extra to dish out in getting to ytz. Also check out aircanada versus porter, 150$ more for the same ride. I guess the rental fee for YTZ is costing aircanada a pretty penny!

You're comparing a T+ AC fare with a PD fare? How about a Tango fare?

It actually turns out to be a PENNY more expensive!

Wait until Westjets new triangle service with free stand by on anyflight and increased numbers of flights. If the flights on WS are 200-300 less expensive thats how I will go. Peroid. It's only an hour after all.

That was my point, no?

WS and PD sell for 50% of what AC sells it for, and yet they can't fill a dozen flights a day, yet AC charges 800$ for the round trip and the planes are still filling up :/

Ya think so?? YTZ-BOS tomorrow on Porter $1,039.00 one way pre-tax every seat, every flight. That would be $2,294.96 for a same day return.

Sometimes WS is cheaper, sometimes PD is cheaper, and yes even sometimes AC is cheaper. The simple mechanics of "Economics and Airline Pricing 101".

Well cheeper is better I just booked on WS Lv YYZ 01 Apr. Lv YUL 04 Apr. Times were almost exact to AC's. WS 262.22 ai vs AC in T+ is $539.07ai Since there is no upside and lots of restrictions flying Tango I don't. Besides it was still almost 400.00. No I think I will be seeing a lot of WS this year once their new triangle program kicks in.

This is a point that some seem to miss. I'm sure AC has sold X number of seats at low fares and once they have done that they move up to the next fare bucket. The fact that other airlines don't fill up their planes and still charge in their lower fare buckets doesn't mean that AC is being less competitive in the market--it just means they are selling more seats than the other guys and hence have less supply to provide and thus can charge more. The other measure in here is that AC likely sells way more through fares than WS does and so a certain number of seats on every plane are not really in the triangle traffic equation.

I don't want to pay more than necessary for any of my travel, but at the end of the day all these airlines are in it to create profit one way or another.

Pay an extra $5 each way and select the Exit row.
