using eUpgrade Credits for companion

Hi all,

I'll be flying CDG-YUL with Ms. Run&Fly on T+ fare. I am E, she is not. We are on separate tickets. I want to use eUG Credits to upgrade both of us.

I know I have to do it at -4 days. Can she be upgraded (cleared) the same time as me, if I do get it. Any advice?

I believe that you can IF you are using YOUR eCredits to do the upgrade. It is my understanding that the upgrade window is based on the status of the person whose credits are being used. So for example, I am SE and my husband is E. When we are using my eCredits, it's the SE windows that apply; when we are using his eCredits, it's the E windows that apply.

I am sure that others will chime in if I am wrong.

She'll be able to upgrade at the 4-day window (assuming you've added her as one of your eUpgrade nominees). It'll be done separately from your upgrade, though. If you want to make sure the upgrades will only go through if you can both be upgraded, you'll probably have to call AC Reservations, or keep a close eye on R space.

Thanks. I'll start by nominating her... and call AC at -4 days.

Linking the separate PNRs helps and should help.

If they are on the same reservation then he does not need to add her as a nominee.

Except that, as booked, they aren't on the same reservation. I don't know if linking the PNRs will be enough to count as "same reservation" or not. Either way, I would assume that one would want to add their SO as a nominee.

The nominee, once added, may not be removed or changed until the end of the programme year (February 29, 2012).

One of the enhancement features of the 2011 programme is that we shall no longer be able to upgrade anyone travelling on the same flight unless that person is one of your nominees or on the same PNR.

True, but one of the other enhancements is the ability to upgrade your spouse etc. when they are not traveling with you. Probably a plus I think.

Or a drawback if your spouse develops too strong of a taste for J. Depends on your perspective. ;)

"Linking" two reservations and thus two PNr (reference numbers) does not mean "same reservation" which is one PNR.

I am always fascinated as to what people believe happens by virtue of a "linking" of PNRs. Airports do not work within PNRs, they work within DCS records, which everyone has individually. If anything, however, people who are actually on the same PNR are actually "grouped together" noticeably in this Airport DCS system.

Can be deactivated, but not replaced. Not sure what good that does though.

But I suppose if you go through a nasty divorce, removing her name will make you feel good? :D

I wonder if they'll let you change this if you add your girlfriend/fiance, and then she changes her name when you get married. Same person, same aeroplan #, different last name.

Or the pleasure of making life more complicated unnecessarily.

My wife kept her maiden's name. So did my daughter. Curious if my future daughter in law will. I suspect not, but I won't ask. :D
