mini RTW - Need Help

What you guys think..would this work?

YUL-ZRH LX F
ZRH-IST TK C
IST-HKG TK F
HKG-BKK (destination) TG F
BKK-HAN (stop) TG C
HAN-ICN OZ C
ICN-NRT (stop) OC C
NRT-ORD NH F
ORD-YUL UA F

My concern is going from IST-BKK via HKG (want to fly TK F!). I want to go to NRT but i dont think I can return NRT-HKG-IST-Canada. Suggestions?

Nope, backtracking. Have to rearrange your trip to remove the crossed lines:

Ya i thought so..for me to do this its either drop NRT and fly TK to HKG or fly to BKK direct. So any of these would work right?

YUL-ZRH LX F
ZRH-FRA LX C
FRA-BKK TG F (destination)
BKK-HAN (stop)
HAN-ICN OZ C
ICN-NRT (stop) OZ C
NRT-ORD NH F
ORD-YUL UA F

OR

YUL-ZRH LX F
ZRH-FRA LX C
FRA-BKK (stop) TG F
BKK-HKT (destination) TG C
HKT-BKK TG C
BKK-HKG (stop) TG F
HKG-IST TK F
IST-MUC LH C
MUC-YUL LH F
--> Fly BKK-HAN RT for cheap on Air Asia

Not to hijack this thread,

But how long can your stay at your Destination and "Stops" be?

I don't think the second one would work since you already turned around at HKT, BKK-HKG would be considered backtracking if you plan to fly HKG-IST. Remember after your destination, you can either continue going east, or turn your heading towards west.

I have a question for the experts though, I planned to arrive at ZRH and open-jaw to CDG. Would this be allowed? Also, my trip includes a leg of KUL-SIN. If I remembered right, one cannot travel a greater distance in an open-jaw than the shortest leg on the itinerary.(ZRH-CDG 297mi, KUL-BKK 185mi) Is it likely that the booking agent would give a bit of leeway or not even knowing ZRH-CDG is farther apart than KUL-BKK?

Thanks

Duration of trip/stops: no limit beyond what is legally ticketable. I think this is something like one calendar year.

Stops vs Open-Jaw: You are allowed a turnaround point, plus two stops. If you want to use an open-jaw, I think it removes one of your stops and it must be either at the start or the turnaround - meaning your start point, or your turnaround point, must be included in the open-jaw.

Interesting itinerary!

I have to ask, what is the secret to finding availability on NH F anyway? I can never find it!

Awesome thanks.

I'm about 3-4 years away before we go do our RTW but still need to start preplanning well in advance :)

You can zig-zag through Europe like that as long as you don't go over MPM.

I don't know if you can transit through NRT twice on the returning leg...you may have to buy a revenue train or air ticket back to NRT.

I would be ready to switch YOW-BOS-FRA to YOW-YUL-ZRH - LH has zeroed all of the 747 award seats starting in April.

bichoo Jan 6, 2011 1:22 pm

i didnt catch that..cant go through NRT twice...i'll do this instead:

YOW-BOS AC Y
BOS-FRA LH F
FRA-CDG LH C
CDG-BKK TG F (destination)
BKK-HKG TG F
HKG-ICN OZ C
ICN-KIX OZ C (stop)
KIX-NRT (stop) NH F
NRT-ORD NH F
ORD-YOW UA Y
