Flygirl: I have often had the pleasure to strike up a long conversation with the desk staff at the MLL in YWG. Quite a friendly and helpful group. You are quite right. It has been the occasion of productive conversations ranging from the challenges of the merger to customer feedback on various topics. The interactions between AC staff and AC customers on this board are testimony to the advantages of such dialogue. Customers and staff work together to ensure the flying experience is pleasant.

A Flygirl,

I was a member of the Empress Lounge for the past two years. It was a great program that really enhanced my travels with CP. I enjoyed several priviledges on top of the lounge membership, including having an empty seat blocked beside me, priority check-in and priority baggage. Sadly, my membership expired at the end of last month. I'm thinking of applying for the DinersClub MLL card, but it is too bad that it doesn't offer the same perks. It would be great for AC to come out with the same program, at least for Prestige members.

Anyway, I paid $195.00 per year plus taxes. I don't really think that they would charge employees more, but I suppose stranger things could be true.

On the theme of MLL desk agents: is it my imagination or are the T1 agents less friendly than elsewhere? I use that lounge fairly regularly on my way to YXU and I always have the feeling that I'm encroaching on their domain. That is the only lounge where they went back to the computer to verify my (perfectly valid) Empress Lounge card last year. Although I don't visit them often, the other Canadian MLLs seem much more laid back.

Back many years ago (five?) when I was rarely flying I was using my formerly En Route credit card now Diners Club. When I got to an annual tab of $10K on it they told me I could get the platinium D. C. card for Maple Leaf Lounges and others world wide for an annual fee of $275.

For me it was a very good deal, i used the executive check in and the lounges on my honeymoon in the US and later with the family, and many of them have small rooms where toddlers can play with little disturbance to others.

Interestingly they have lounges that are not always the same ones as AC, so you can make a project of going around sampling " the danish" as I did this morninig at the two in MUC.

Give them a call 275 is not bad and you can use the front door!

I was told by an AC employee (Manager of Call Centre Ops.), flying Toronto-Montreal, about one year ago, that AC staff could not earn Aeroplan miles. He said that Aeroplan accounts are suspended at time of employment and only re-instated at the end of employment.

I thought that this was true...

You I assume, frequent the lounges on a regular basis. Have you ever had the availability of an employee for the type of informal conversation that I am suggesting? Can you see the potential?[/B]
Sometimes when sitting next to an employee on a flight, I find the conversation stimulating, and hopefully useful. However, unless otherwise indicated, I usually assume that the FA or whomever, would rather have the well earned peace and quiet and not have to listen to my precious advice.

Fly Boy asked:
Re MLL Diners Club credit card: Does anyone know if this card allows supplementary (second) cards to be issued for spouses etc? I thought it was only for use of one cardholder with no exception[?]

You are definitely entitled to one supplementary. I have one for my daughter. It costs about $125 if I recall.

No, you are right. There was an agent in that lounge that has a serious attitude problem, many of us have encountered him. I haven't heard any recent complaints so maybe he is now tormenting passengers somewhere in T2[?]

GreyOwl: Many thanks for answering this question. Looks like MLL Enroute is a good backstop for those having difficulty requalifying for a premium tier...
