I will say I've never quite had an experience like that. They called me up and told me I could board whenever I wanted and escorted me with placards that had VIP printed on them.
Wow, AC VIP status is above SE, you can’t earn it.
I believe it includes things like 9 checked bags and full end to end service including car service for connections. Normally reserved for major CEOs and A list actors. I’m sure others will chime in.

Whom is this friend?!

Agree with @jc94

One bug (or is this intentional?) of AP is that redeemed tickets carries the status of the redeemer, but not the person flying, so your friend's VIP status is passed down to you.

That is only true if the last name (and I believe first initial) matches.

Though I don't think my parents have ever had my status show up, so I'm going to say it also requires first initial.

However, the rules could be different for VIP.

To have VIP status you have to have a title before your name...ie/ Prince, Baron, Duke, King etc Lol!

I wonder if VIP status guarantees you champagne on NA Signature Service flights?

Oh yes & caviar too, plus they roll out the Red Carpet for your boarding. Separate washroom, since there is no way in H*ll a VIP is going to use the same washroom as the SE peons!!

I've seen BS personally escort a VIP on board.

All SEs are chopped liver.

Trust me, I'm doing you a favour.
Some of the service I've seen a VIP get is not even close to how some of the most well-respected-by-AC SEs here are treated.

I know Air France used to offer private Jet service for select travellers with humungous bank accounts.

Well, I happen to think that many FTers are already VIPs - Vociferous, Impulsive Posters.

I redeemed two tickets on NH for my father (same last name, different first name initial), AC *G showed up on his BP. So I think it also depends on the airline?

Oh yeah, and they don't get BMW for transfers, they get HH.

I'm talking about an AC number on an AC flight.

It is much more relaxed when you're mixing airlines. NH on NH is probably more strict than AC on NH.

Exclamation An old Macleans article is relative

Without going through and reading every single post in the thread I can't be sure if this is duplicate info.
Macleans had an interesting article regarding the (alleged) secret VIP status some years ago.

https://www.macleans.ca/economy/busi...equent-fliers/

The VIP black luggage tags sound like a variation on the more common AC black (letter size) VIP folders which some of us may have.

I wonder if VIP status means that someone will answer the phone.
