So what's the truth?

I just tried to call the SE desk to change the following reservation:

Mar 25 HKG-YVR
Mar 25 YVR-YYZ <-- Want to change it to March 29

I am flying on a H class ticket so it's defintely fine to make a stopover. SE desk told me that I have to call the travel agent to make the change and they can't do anything about it!?

Earlier in the week, I made a similar change with the SE desk for my current reservation without a problem...

Talk about inconsistency... so what's the real deal, can SE desk make the change to a ticket that I booked with a travel agent?

AC*SE Feb 21, 2001 11:29 pm

They can change a reservation provided that the ticket does not have to be reissued. As long as the new itinerary meets the existing fare rules, and there is no change to the routing, they should be able to do it.

If the fare changes, or the routing changes, then the travel agent will have to do it.

Which doesn't explain your problem...

Andrew Yiu Feb 21, 2001 11:35 pm

In my case:

Fare does not change because it's a H fare and the domestic segment can be changed at anytime without charge and one stopover is allowed which is what I am trying to do...

Routing does not change because it's still HKG-YVR-YYZ...

I don't understand why they said no, I'll try again tomorrow morning with a different agent.

Just joined FT today. I've just booked my first J-fare MHD for under 1500 (YYC-LAX-GDL-ORD-YYZ-YYC) and was surprized to find out from the AC Ticketing Agent that the class is J8. She said it's because Mexicana is the primary carrier and their classes are different. The only restriction is a US$70 cancellation fee? I am not planning on cancelling but I just want to be clear on this: J class means I can change dates and times with no penalty, correct?

Thx in advance.

BlondeBomber Feb 22, 2001 5:22 am

That's correct. I never saw anything about a $70 cancellation fee in any fare rules I have ever seen. It is a totally unrestricted totally changeable fare.

AC*SE Feb 22, 2001 9:39 am

"J" would be the unrestricted, changable, refundable, etc. etc. Extensions beyond that carry restrictions.

"J2" does not allow stopovers and it would seem that "J8" is refundable subject to cancellation penalty.

Here are YYC-GDL fare rules on MX (same thing on AC is J not J8, same price, different allowable routings)

Empress, if all else fails, try changing the date in AC HKG Ticket office. They are nice and will put a sticker on your tix. Be sure to flash your SE card to receive priority service http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

H-class fare is definitely eligible for one stopover. As long as your transpacific sector matches the fare type (Weekday or Weekend) then it is legit to change on the YVR-YYZ trip for free. I have done this many times on HKG-YVR-YUL-LGA trips.

PROBLEM SOLVED...

Just called the SE desk toll free here from HKG and the agent put me on hold for 5 mins and came back told me everything is all set and even confirmed 2 upgrades for me without me asking even with C showing 0! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
