Air Canada, the country's largest airline, said on Tuesday the percentage of available seats filled with paying passengers rose to a record 82.2 percent last month when consolidated with its regional carrier Jazz (JAZ_u.TO). That compared with a 79.7 percent system load factor in September last year.

Air Canada's system-wide traffic increased 11.7 percent on a capacity increase of 8.4 percent.

Led by traffic growth of more than 21 percent in the Pacific, Air Canada's traffic increased in all markets.

Traffic increase exceeded capacity increase, so that should be financially positive.

Smaller planes (less seats available) with the same number of passengers => higher load factor.

Except of course, they have more seats available (8.4% more). The positive is that there are more seats sold overall than added (11+% increase in seats sold)
