It might have something to do with AP's contract with its cert printer. After the contract expires, they can switch to electronic certs...

Some Thoughts so far:

1. No change fee for SEs if advancing the travel (i.e. travelling on an earlier flight). Revenue recognized early and another seat for sale. Win-win!
Since SEs fly more often, there are more chances for things to go wrong.

2. Minimal change fee for SEs if delaying the travel by 24 hrs or less.

3. Auto upgrade to Executive if there are seats available after flight is closed. I spend 600+ hours/year on a plane, I am just looking for some personal space and a glass of wine. Sort of the FF version of the Carl's Jr commercial.

4. Rotate meals monthly. I like Canneloni, but not every flight. A 3 month rotation program would work.

I'm not expecting any material changes going in to 2011.

Keep the focus on AC for 2011

All of my suggestions / concerns have already been posted elsewhere. This is just my shameless attempt to keep this thread in focus...:p

2011 Top Tier

Well - I have heard it is official - - 2011 Top tier will move to electronic upgrades. Some type of "point" system. The system will be quite automated and also be able to allow you to receive credits for "issues" such as long delays or other problems in handling. Anyone have any insight? Will we still be able to have the equivalent of the special system wide for our annual overseas upgrade?

My sources are saying the same thing. A point system is coming were the top tier member will be able to use points to choose a personalized combination of upgrade instruments and other benefits. The exact mix of options and points per tier level is still being worked on.

I think I like it - the devil will be in the details. If it effectively allows us to "swap" what were NAU's and SWU's for SSWU's at a reasonable ratio, then I think this will be viewed positively. If the "points" allow for fewer upgrade opportunities than is currently the case, people will not be so happy.

Will be interesting to see how they handle the "higher" T+ fares (e.g. M) under the new system. I'm planning on buying a transcontinental pass this fall, but will not be pleased if I need to use "more" points to upgrade than under the current system.

I think I've been burned. When AC removed the 30% IKK surcharge, I thought it was awesome but they instead slapped in the capacity controls, which made it worse than it was. Now, the point system sounded good, but one doesn't know how many points an SE will be given and how many points would be equivalent to an NAU, SSWU, or SWU. One might get LESS upgrade chance this year than the previous years.

The details are key. I for one am not looking forward to the new system.

Any upside to swap wallpaper for something you can use must come at a price or reduction of something else.

Details are key, agreed.

And yes, usually changes are for the worse. In a way if we would hear that there is no change I would feel somewhat relieved.

But let us reserve our judgement until we see the details. Current management has been quite customer-oriented. Let us give them the benefit of the doubt, and see if that was only because of the recession and now it's back to business as usual with short term focus, or if it's really a different crowd and a real attitude change/business model change.
