NEXUS priority lane pilot project

Just received this in my email:

Dear NEXUS member,

As of April 19th 2010, NEXUS members may use a new “NEXUS Priority Lane” for pre-boarding security screening for domestic and some international flights (excluding flights to the United States) at the Macdonald-Cartier International Airport located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and at Terminal 1 at the Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and for domestic flights at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport in Montréal.

The priority security screening lane is part of a pilot project implemented by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) in partnership with Transport Canada and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
To benefit from this service, present your valid NEXUS membership card and boarding pass to the security screening officer at the designated screening checkpoint. If you do not have your membership card with you, you must use the regular screening lanes. Lanes will be clearly identified.

All passengers, including those accessing the NEXUS Priority Lane, are required to comply with CATSA screening requirements.

In the future, additional airports and trusted traveller programs will be considered for the priority lanes. For further information on this pilot and for information on any changes to the pilot, please visit the CBSA and CATSA web sites through the links at the end of this message.

CATSA would like to remind you to Pack Smart when travelling. To speed up your pre-board security screening process, please ensure your carry-on baggage has easy access to remove your laptop computer, video and film cameras. In addition, please place your liquids, aerosols and gels in clear, 1-litre resealable bags. For more tips on speeding up the screening process, or general travel advice and information, please visit the CATSA Web site.
For updates to the NEXUS program, please regularly visit the NEXUS Web site

Yours truly,

Canada Border Services Agency
I like it! Finally a decent pilot project after that fiasco with the DDR mat at YOW.

I do find the date somewhat confusing though, I've been travelling out of YOW regularly for the past few months and I've yet to notice this Nexus priority lane, unless they mean that faux priority lane that's ALWAYS closed. Anyone actually seen such a beast?

The Nexus priority line has indeed been active since about mid-April on the domestic side at YOW and in YYZ. In YOW, it is in the exact same spot as the "old" priority lane. If in a hurry, concierge can still walk you through the new "Nexus" line.

Well maybe I'll get to use it on Monday :)

Does it actually function as a priority lane at YYZ domestic? Is it enforced? I usually go through the connections screening on the lower level, which nominally has a *A priority lane, but it is never enforced. The lines are generally short though. Should I try going upstairs?

I tried it in YUL last week...the line up was shorter than the *G priority lane, but I'm sure that won't last long....

I used the Nexus priority lane at YYZ for a domestic flight a couple of weeks ago. It was to the extreme right side and had a dedicated agent checking your boarding pass and Nexus card. It was great as I bypassed a significant line-up for the other lanes (including the so called priority lane).

Yup, but the email announcement is a bit late... up and running and used both YOW and YYZ Nexus lines recently. Nice. Only concern is yet another gate keeper(s) on the payroll.

Funny the gatekeeper at YYZ couldn't find my name on BP but would let me through anyway.. but next time I should ensure my name is on the BP... what?

(it was btw)

Isn't that a security requirement for US-bound flights now? It's not just at YOW.

I had to play DDR in YYZ T1 domestic; the nexus line didn't have the mat

A colleague and I "tested" the YYZ NEXUS lane two weeks ago. He went through the regular side and I went through the NEXUS lane.

He was through almost five full minutes before me...

I was turned away from the Nexus line in YYZ about a month ago - Nexus card in hand. I categorized that experience under "YYZ procedures" ... otherwise, it's been a nice option at those busy times.

It seems that YHZ domestic security had the DDR mat out this morning. It wasn't there on Friday the 16th so it's all new to me.

Looks as though you go right you get 'normal' security, you go left you get the one lane that has the nude-o-scope machine. I got left, and there was nobody in the right hand lane, so can't say if you were being asked/told/suggested to use the nude-o-scope.

Anyone seen this elsewhere or know what is going on with this?

PS: It didn't seem to have anything to do with a priority lane since it was the last thing everyone did before being sent to a security lane.

Used Nexus line at YUL on Thursday.

IMO,slower than regular security line(s):(

I did the Nexus priority lane at YVR a few days ago, and still got sent to the Porno machines. Despite that, it only allowed me to cut in front of 5 people, so wasn't really worth the hassle.

I didn't bother with it at YOW on Monday - there was no one waiting in line at 5:45 AM anyway. Went through domestic to YYZ, then was heading onto California.

Customs at YYZ was another story. I was kissing my NEXUS card that day, let me tell you!
