Be aware that Aeroplan is currently blocking all business class awards on Ethiopian. Business class award space may well be available on your route, but Aeroplan will only show economy to you.

Check ANA for Ethiopian business class availability. If it is available, you will need to ask for Aeroplan supervisor to do a direct booking. Now whether they will agree to do it is an open question.

I just checked, and there is indeed Business class award space when I searched with the ANA website. Time to get on the horn and hope for some good luck. Thanks!

Please report here if you were able to persuade Aeroplan to book Ethiopian business class. When I called and tried, the agent told me they are not allowed to do direct booking. I did not push hard, and did not ask for a supervisor, so I am very interested if it's possible if you push.

Currently Aeroplan is not showing any award business class seats on Ethiopian, on any route, on any date.

I see nothing wrong with either routing; both look perfectly valid to me.

This one will seem obvious to somebody, but it ain't to me.

I'm looking to book a pseudo-mini-RTW, but incorporating an open jaw with an additional stop.

The condensed version (connecting flights dropped for clarity) is this:
YVR-AKL (stop)
AKL-NAN (stop)
MEL (destination) - YVR
Looking through the FAQ, I'm under the MPM and seem to be okay on IATA zones, and am not routing through the same city twice on any leg. But I was wondering about the destination being on the 'other side' of the open jaw. Would this be a valid routing?

Sorry to ask but open jaws always trip me up.

Looks OK to me, providing that YVR-AKL-NAN-MEL falls under the YVR-MEL MPM. The open-jaw distance still counts towards MPM.

If you use an open jaw it takes away one of your stops, so you'd be able to have that itinerary but you could only stop at ICN or NRT, not both.

That could end up being my challenge then. I didn't realize that a leg (the open part of the jaw) I'm not flying on rewards could count towards the MPM.

Interesting - thanks!

Is the following a valid trip?

YYZ-IST-JNB (Stop)

JNB-ADD-SEZ (Dest)

SEZ-IST-YYZ (potentially a stop in IST)

On a related side note, when are Turkish seats released? I can't find IST-YYZ direct on turkish at any date in the future.

As a follow up I booked this trip today, no fuss, no muss even with the open jaw. The very helpful Isabelle was very surprised that there was any inventory to be had in J YVR-AKL, but it all worked out.

The fully expanded trip is:
YVR - SYD - AC J
SYD - AKL - NZ J Stop
AKL - NAN - NZ J Stop
MEL - BKK - TG J (MEL is third stop)
BKK - TPE - TG J
TPE - YVR - AC J
Thanks again for the pointers.

YYZ-SEZ MPM is showing as 13,740 on Aeroplan website, your route is 13,727 on gcmap, so barely fits, but there are a couple of problems:

- Turkish stopped releasing YYZ-IST-YYZ a while ago,
- Turkish never releases IST-JNB,
- Aeroplan is blocking Ethiopian business.

Thanks for your help. YYZ-IST is dead then? That's disappointing, it is such a popular route. How long has it been dead?
