I am booking my honeymoon for next September/October. Would it be wise to book my outgoing flights now, and then pay change fees for when my return flights open? I care less about the $90 than I do ensuring I get the direct flights I want.

You've just answered your own question then, haven't you?

I guess so Just wanted to make sure it didn't screw anything up. Since I would be booking only a one way, and then having to change it to a mini-RTW, I wanted to be sure that I will get a full points refund for the one way, and then deducted for the mini-rtw.

Oh, I misunderstood. Yeah, routing changes are tougher to make than date changes after the fact. Why not book the full route you're looking for, with the return dates earlier than your real return dates? And then push the return dates out once those seats open up? That way it's a less complicated date change, and hopefully if you get the same segments and flights, no need to recalculate points / taxes either.

Can you elaborate on this?

I've never done a date change without also having a routing change, but I have done a routing change without a date change, and none of this has been "tough".

Nothing really to elaborate on. It's just been my personal experience that the poor agents at AE have had trouble processing a routing change like this. Whereas a date change has always been straightforward and easy. I have no idea the reason for this -- perhaps a more frequent flyer might -- but that's just what I've encountered.

Like with most things AC/AE, YMMV.

23:50 is definitely okay.

I'm pretty sure 24:00 is also okay, but 24:01 is not.

Hi guys, try to book my mRTW with:

YVR-LAX UA in J
LAX-TPE-BKK-HN EVA,TG in J
HN-BKK-HND TG in J
HND-YVR ANA in J

Total tax is $480

is that too high or it's ok. Should I change any round to lower the tax?

Thank you!

I assume most of the surcharges are coming from the TG legs, if you can find BKK-HND on ANA that will reduce it.

Probably getting charged bkk to YVR destination to origin YQ instead of pricing it out segment by segment which would have had near zero in and out of Japan

Thank you eigenvector and crimsona,

So I guest i need to take off all the TG? Is that better if i change the HN-BKK-HND on TG to HN-ICN-HND on ASIANA? or i just book it by now and wait to see if the HN-HND on ANA show up?

Is that ok on the TG on LAX-TPE-BKK-HN or i have to take it out as well?

Much appreciated

In virtually any scenario, TG will charge higher fees than anyone other than LG.

So, yeah, any time you can replace a TG leg with another airline, you should see your fees go down.
