I think the spirit of the delayed baggage insurance is to provide you with things THAT ARE IN YOUR DELAYED BAGS while you are waiting for them. If you checked a bag with NOTHING in it, then I guess you would be entitled to NOTHING.

I don't see how this isn't fraud as well... Maybe better just to admit you were wrong to suggest it?

My $0.02.

I just checked and domestic flights seem best to do this. I also checked out YVR to HKG, but they only had "creative routes" that would route to NRT and its only available on latitude which is even more expensive than restricted J-class.

I haven't checked in luggage in over two years... 4/5 times that I did, it was delayed / lost... pain in the butt, and not worth the hassle...

If going for an extended time, I do laundry...

I was wrong to suggest it because I didn't have it thought out, because I have never been and will never be in such situation.

All I know is if the airline delays my bag while I'm traveling, I would go ahead a buy a new outfit on insurance, to compensate for my inconvenience. So if my bag has some clothing in it, wouldn't it become fine? Whether it's a necessary item is up to me to decide. No one can tell me to reuse the same outfit for the next day, although theoretically I could.

wow - i'm clearly seeing the limits of my approach. currently i live in southern africa, where MR options (or any options, really!) are pretty limited. generally, when i have to go somewhere, i have to pay whatever they're askin'. i also tend to have pretty fixed dates, so it breaks my heart hearing someone who paid $2000 for E. i just paid $1700 ZRH-YYZ return, and that sure isn't going to get me to E! but because the flight's for my own wedding, i didn't have much choice!
am relocating to europe later this year, where i'm sure my choices will be wider, and i'll be taking advantage of our % bonus on swiss and lufthansa, for sure!

Living in Southern Africa your choices are limited but you should be racking up the miles flying to Europe and North America! Once you are in Europe I think you may be a kid in a candy store as you will have CHOICE and lots of it too! Congats on getting married, good luck in Europe

Congratulations! I had a small triumph today, booking my usual monthly trip to DFW for only $10 or so more but going YWG-YVR-YYZ-DFW-SFO-YYZ-YWG. Yeah, there are a couple of redeyes in there but I triple the usual YWG/FAR-DEN/ORD-DFW mileage. The price was not rock-bottom but it's not purely a MR. Sometimes you make it by just padding your usual trips. . . .

Nice, did you use AC.com as a round trip or multi city?

RCyyz Mar 6, 2010 8:59 pm

I would think the best (segment) possibilities in South Africa would be JNB - CPT - MRU. But in southern Africa I guess there aren't that many options with *A.

How can you make sure not to get stuck with Tango when you use Expedia?

By checking the fare rules before purchase. This is done by clickng the link at the bottom of the pricing page. The fare basis gives the fare code that can be looked up on aeroplan.com.

Doesn't work most of the time - especially on multi city routings.
