Can someone answer this question instead?
Having never actually flown on AC, hence having never used an AC upgrade voucher, I need someone to answer this question for me... someone who was interested in my upgrade certs asked this but I don't know the answer.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif
Can I use the systemwides for trips Canada-UK? I am Canadian Gold and have requalified this year. This means I will be Elite in Aeroplan on Jan 1st. My wife and I will be travelling to the UK in January and could use 4 systemwides for the round trip. Thanks again. (name) Now, my guess is that because Elite kits are sent out in March, he won't be able to use the vouchers... but if anyone knows differently, then please post the answer! PS. I STILL have some systemwides up for grabs... (but should be gone soon...) so e-mail me if you want any... (and if blackjack-21 really doesn't want the North Americans, then I have a few of those available too... Please remember: Systemwides: Elite / Prestige, from Y/M fare http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mad.gif North Americans: Elite ONLY, from any except Q/L fares stargold [This message has been edited by stargold (edited 08-28-2000).] |
Stargold:
The year 2000 AC vouchers expire on Feb 28/2001, to coincide with the start of the next year. The new packages are sent out in February so that you should have them for March. These vouchers are good in Jan/Feb. IF the person is paying a Y/M fare, then they can be used, and the seats reserved at the 72 hour window. Of course if the flights chosen are full in J class, then you are out of luck. I have had some flights from LHR where I could not even buy a J ticket 2 weeks in advance, much less upgrade. Also keep in mind that AC uses "domestic" 767s on the YYZ-GLA route, and maybe the YYZ-MAN route as well. On these planes, the front cabin is nowhere near as nice as the Executive First cabin on the LHR route. There is not the business class market on these route, being mostly vacationers, so if these are the flights being used, I would not expect much improvement in service in the front cabin. |
Does it matter if he's not Elite by the flight date, but rather a CdnPlus Gold (an equivalent level to Elite)? because...
I don't think that the systems get updated until March to show the new status, since the "elevated" status is valid from March. So would I be right by saying that in principle, he can't use the vouchers? stargold |
Good question, but given that Cdn+ ceases to exist as of December 31st/January 1st I suspect the following scenario comes into play.
All we Cdn+ members -- if we've sent in our correct Aeroplan information to Cdn -- will automatically become Aeroplan members -- or have our points transferred tothose existing Aeroplan accounts -- and assume the equivilent level in Aeroplan as we have in Cdn+ for the balance of the membership year. In late February we will then assume our earned levels for the following membership year. Thatsays to me that if the person is Gold now, s/he will become Elite for the two months of the new year, and thus should be eligible to use those upgrade certificates if the fares are appropriate. |
He is fine. CP Gold have the same upgrading privileges as AC Élite. As long as there is C inventory available 72 hours ahead, he can get the upgrades and use the Élite/Prestige certs.
However--they are valid Y only from Canada-Europe, don't forget. |
