Where's the Competition?
Air Canada accused of strongarm tactics by airline Pacific Coastal: Claims malicious and unlawful interference with contract http://www.nationalpost.com/search/s...22/351094.html Asearch of ITN for tomorrow, shows AC/CP flights to YCD (Nanaimo) at $321, and Pacific Coastal at $158 for R/T fare. |
It may take a while, but it will get here eventually. The big U.S. carriers will take
advantage of CP's demise by moving into Canada a bit more agressively--note Carty's comments, re: not needing a Canadian partner. Also, Westjet and Roots Air (coming in the fall) should give AC some competition on some routings. The shorter routes will probably not have much competition, at least for the near term, but that could change as the gov't. sees prices escalate out of sight. Also, isn't there a new carrier soon to start on the east coast? Some of the charter carriers up here--Canada 3000, Air Transat, Royal--seem to be inclined to add more domestic flights, and this should help to keep AC's prices somewhat in line, though I think they'll always be higher. bj-21.
