How Long Does It Take To Post Status Miles?

I just returned from Sydney on a United flight, and am awaiting for my miles to post. I am assuming that these will be posted before December 31st, 2009... After these miles post, I will be 3226 miles short of Elite status, so I am traveling to Edmonton (3375 miles) returning on December 28th.

Will that be enough time to post and get my status for next year?

Depends on the airline. My trip on SQ posted within 24 hrs. AC was late. Once your flights are done you'll get the mileage credit and will be able to select your choices-- you have 45 days from Dec 17th to make the choices before you get the default package.

I think it doesn't matter when the miles post, but when you actually flew... If AC disagrees, disputing is in order!

Ok, so the deadline is December 31st right?

I will definitely dispute it if they don't post in time!

My flight that returns back on the 28th is with Air Canada, so they won't really have much to stand on if it doesn't post...

Thanks!

Yes, deadline to fly is December 31... Miles will post ASAP I figure (AC would probably want to arrange for this).

Ok great - will be excited to have Elite status for the first time!

My first year too! Qualified Early Recognition! So much fun... Now I can't imagine what will happen when I loose AC*E...

There is good chance these miles won't post by the 31st. DON'T WORRY. Status is based on when you fly, not when your miles post. Your status doesn't officially start until March 1 (although you can use it as soonas it is recognized). Even if your miles don't post until February you will still get your status.

Sweeps of the system are done periodically. You will see that you have more than 35k miles but not be given E. Several days later once the sweep has been performed, you will see your new status and can select your benefits, etc.

UA posts to other programs in 48-hours, though with the time zone that could be 72-hours ex-SYD. I had a UA flight on Tuesday posted on my BD account by Thursday. Note that your flights do not have to post by the end of the year to be counted for status the following year, just the flights must have been taking within this year. It is more likely your AC flights will take longer to post than your UA ones, but if you fly on the 28th, the AC flights will post on the 31st or more likely the 1st. The second sweep will occur at the end of the first week of January, so you should be okay.

Guess the UA flights really made the difference -- almost 20K in SMs -- in your tally this year.

Halfway to elite from one flight which wasn't an AC flight.

I am missing some status miles from TAP.(TP) Flights taken Dec 17. :(Flights also taken same day and on same booking with British Midland-Bmi (BD) have posted OK. :) Travelling companion with LH M&M in the same situation BD miles posted OK, TP miles no!
Miles from TP flights will secure me into E for 2010.:)
I know I can mail copies of e Ticket / Boarding Pass into AP, however, again based on past experience this can take weeks for credits to be added. Anyone out there know a quicker way? eg FAX?

UA mileage posting

In my experience, miles earned on UA segments are posted to AP within 3-4 days. If they have not posted by a week, I usually request them on-line, and they usually post within 4-5 days after that.

What if only half the miles show up?

Switching gears...I had an open-jaw pleasure trip in Oct/Nov in which I flew YLW-YVR-FRA-MUC and returned FCO-FRA-YYC-YLW. The transatlantic segments were on LH metal outbound; AC on the way home. Only 2505 miles posted (status) on the YVR-FRA leg. Yet the full 4678 status miles appeared for the FRA-YYC leg. Why was I given half the miles outbound on LH?

I selected 'economy' on the booking, which yielded a fare that (I discovered later) only counted the domestic Jazz flights as Tango (125 points - no status). Balls. The intra-Europe flights on LH all counted and I gained 500 miles per segment. So why weren't the TATL legs counted the same? The fare class ('Tourist' I'd imagine) claims I should receive 100% status miles...yet the request to Aeroplan has met with stunned silence...

'Tis the difference between P and E for me this year.

Are you sure the fare codes were the same in each direction? Could be you had a lower fare on the outbound, thus 50% mileage credit (and likely as the JAZZ flight you mentioned was in Tango class), than on the return and intra-European flights. This often happens as the web booking engine will default to the lowest fare bucket available in each direction, and these could be quite different.

I've cleared my inbox since then so don't have the confirmation details, so, no, I'm not sure if the outbound & inbound fare classes were the same. In hindsight, I would suspect not, but remember the ac.com site at one time explained various pricing options across the pond; there were two lower-class economy fares available (called Leisure & Tourist if I recall). These options didn't appear on this booking, and thus I couldn't ensure I avoided the fare that only credited partial miles.
At any rate, I do recall both Leisure & Tourist classes awarded full status on the international segments, but they never did stipulate what happens if you sit in partner (LH) metal.
It (explaining the fare class more clearly) was the focus on my survey response following my visit to the ac website today.
