Pilanesberg accommodation

I've been to Pilanesberg several times for the day from Johannesburg. With my wife next time, I'd like to stay overnight.

I'm looking for something simple, like the rondels (spelling?) I've seen elsewhere. I've checked the park website, which seems to include the resort-type lodges but nothing simpler. I've e-mailed them (twice :() seeking advice, but no response as yet.

Do you know of any simple accommodation tn the park? I guess b&bs will be outside.

Thanks for your help.

I only know Bakubung and KwaMaritane inside Pilanesberg - classic lodges.
By the way, has KwaMaritane been rebuilt after the fire?

Not sure, but availability is zeroed out through April 30. Either the lodge is exceptionally popular, or it has yet to rise from the ashes.

We will be there in April 2009, also looking for budget accommodation near the park. Is Rustenberg a reasonable overnight stop or are there better places closer to Pilanesberg?

The word is "rondavels" - in case you want to Google something.

Thanks, all, for your hints. Ah, Cheetah_SA, - Rondavels - that's what I needed, thanks.

I haven't yet found what I was looking for and it looks as though we may end up in one of the resorts.

Pilanesberg is not even 50 km up the R565 from Rustenburg, so unless you are running really late I see no reason to stop over so close to your final destination.

It seems the accommodation in Pilanesberg is only the expensive type, they don't have the cheaper ones like Kruger. Of course Sun City is WAY too expensive so I was thinking Rustenberg is the only place to find budget accommodation.
