Morocco Trip in 10 days
Scheduled to go for one week in ten days... Air France won't let us cancel/rebook... trying to decide if we should go to help with tourist revenue, or if we should cancel to avoid being burdens... our trip was to Marrakech but could easily drive to Casablanca or elsewhere.
Anyone in same boat? |
AF has a commercial gesture for flights to/from Maroc for a limited window which seems to be unfortunately not wide enough to include your travel date in 10 days.
"Si vous êtes en possession d'un billet Air France, émis jusqu'au 09 septembre 2023, pour un voyage prévu entre le 09 et le 17 septembre 2023 sur un vol de ou vers le Maroc, vous pouvez : Reporter votre voyage sans frais dans la même cabine de transport jusqu'au 01 octobre 2023 inclus. Vous pouvez également anticiper votre voyage." Ultimately it's your decision whether to go ahead with your voyage. Marrakech suffered impacts, with structural damages to some of the tourist sites, but most of the worst damages were south of the city. I don't think you would be a burden unless you actively decide to go to the aforementioned regions, and they need the tourist revenue. |
We are due to go early next month, and for me it's business as usual. As I posted in the Fez thread Morocco needs the revenue so the best form of solidarity and support is going ahead as planned. Visiting the High Atlas might not be a good idea as you could be burden there, but even in Marrakech I think people will be delighted to see you.

Mrs. Outoftown and I have been here in Marrakech since Sunday, staying the first part of our trip in the older section at P'tit Habibi riad. The latter part of our stay is at Le Meridien N'Fis hotel across from the Menara mall. Although we saw a few places where there was rubble, it was hard to determine if it was earthquake related. As the previous post states, Morocco is welcoming. We highly recommend the P'tit Habibi, with excellent service and kindness, but there are stairs to climb and no elevators. The Le Meridien is undergoing renovations, with a nice pool and breakfast, but it not quite yet up to Marriott standards. Don't postpone is my advice. There are plenty of tourists wandering around the souks and squares!
