load-shedding in JHB/SA - current situation?

Latest load-shedding thread I could find was from 2014, which indicates that it's been a while since it's been so bad...

I was down in JHB in December, and the load-shedding was bad (level 4, although they were threatening level 6!). It made my usual airBnB stay 'untidy', so I was back in a proper hotel to get some consistency of power. I'm down again in ten days - how are things now? Is it reliable enough to go without genny power in airBnB?

local info please!
Thanks

This past weekend I was in a rural area of the Western Cape. There was level 2 load shedding that affected us both during the night and again midday on Sunday.

Nobody knows what the future holds, last night level 2 load shedding was implemented 1:00-6:00 with high chance of it happening again tonight.
They didn't just threaten stage 6 in Dec they actually implemented it for several hours or so.

You can try and follow Eskom's tweeter - https://twitter.com/Eskom_SA but they only provide info a couple of hours before, if even.

I’m in rural Mpumalanga right now and have spent the last 10 days here and Pretoria/Joburg. There have been 4/5 2-4 hour windows where the power has been out, annoying but not awful. Next week is rumoured to be Level 6 however...

We used to call them power cuts. Load shedding sounds much more refined

There is simply no way Eskom can predict what will happen next week, I wouldn't think too much of it, load shedding has stopped on January 10th at 23:00 so let's hope it stays that way.

I have been in PLZ for the last 5 days and had two overnight layovers at JNB last week. I have experienced no issues at all.

No reason to limit ourselves to Stage 6
Eskom: Municipalities must be prepared for Stage 8 Load Shedding

Many thanks all - I see that there hasn't been any loadshedding for the last few days, and also understand that no-one (certainly not Eskom, sadly) seem to be able to predict the future....

There's an app for that

There's also GridWatch by News 24. But, checking it on my phone now, it seems to be out of date/not working.
