Some questions about travelling to Tripoli, Libya

This may sound crazy. I understand that there are no commercial flights operating to both the airports of Tripoli. I guess people may be travelling by Road from Tunisia. Are there any recent experiences of travel toTripoli? I wish to know the details. Thanks.

There are quite a few flights you can get to Tripoli:

You can also fly Libyan Wings from Tunis to Tripoli, 3 daily flights

Thanks. Umm... this link seems old.. flight information display is of July's. As per latest news, both the airports of Tripoli are hit by drones and are closed for traffic for sometime now. Nearest alternate airport is some 200 KMs away at Misrata.

I am not able to see any news where scheduled flights have started to operate into Tripoli. I wonder how expats are travelling to and from Tripoli.

I don't fly there but did a bit of research and it looks like TIP is indeed closed but another Tripoli airport is open, Mitiga (MJI). According to the schedule there are 5 direct flights a day to TUN. Looking at Google maps it seems to be 6 - 8 km from the center of Tripoli.

As I said, I have never flown there so hopefully someone with personal experience will jump an on this.

I did a search on Google Flights and came up empty. Then I tried a search on expedia.ca and found this:

Now who exactly is "Hahn Air Systems"? I have no clue. Can't say I've ever heard of Libyan Wings either but in theory at least, it is possible to fly to MJI.

Here's a little more info from flight radar: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/airports/mji

Apparently you can fly in toe MJI from SAW, BEY and others.

You might also want to PM ironmanjit as I'm pretty sure he's been there, though perhaps not recently.

Sharing some information that I got from other sources. There are no flights operating to Tripoli (both the airports, TIP and MJI) as of now. This is confirmed. There are only two other international gateways within Libya. Misrata and Benghazi. To get to Tripoli, only option is to fly to Misrata and drive through war zone for 200 KMs to reach the city. There are flights operated by Libyan airlines and Libyan Wings, mainly for 3 destinations; Tunis, Istanbul and Alexandria.

Schedules are erratic and non reliable. I have no clue about safety of these airlines. Looks like this is how the things are at the moment. Hope they get better.
