16 days to fill. First time to Africa needing itinerary advice

Hi FT,

Need some advice. Christmas Holiday to Africa for family of 4. So far:
Flight to Narobi from SFO. Car transfer to Arusha for 7day/6 nights Safari route.

Considering: back to Narobi for flight to Victoria Falls for 1-2 nights Is there a better way to get from the Serengeti to Victoria Falls?

Flight to Cape Town for the 1 week.

What am I missing? Is there an alternative route to consider? Is there a more efficient route?

Thanks in advance.

You will be limited by what is available at a price you are happy to pay.
What have you looked at ? Prices & schedules?

For something a little different you can take the train from Dar to Zambia

A week in Cape Town may be excessive. Consider a few days in the winelands ... Stellenbosch/Franschhoek.

I haven't done the train, have you? But I've heard enough about it to not recommend it. Very slow, frequent breakdowns etc. Not sure id want to spend that long on such an old train. But I'm sure it would be an adventure in itself.

You can Visit Tarangire National park , The famous Serengeti National Park, Lake Manyara and the Ngorogoro crater when you get to Tanzania. The Parks are accessible from Arusha.
Let me know if you need any help with itineraries. I have doing this for over 13 years

As I am sure you have found, regional routes in Africa are quite limited and where they exist for tourists they are expensive (completely understandably). To get out of the Arusha area you either fly or bus back to Nairobi, or Dar es Salaam or Addis Ababa, and then fly onwards from there. And most flights in and out of the 'safari' regions are timed to meet international (Europe / middle east / US) flights, so generally have very poor connections. So 'better' is always a compromise between cost and time.

Whilst I love Cape Town and would go there again at the drop of a hat, for the OP who appears to be from the West Coast of the USA, it's really not that different from his/her home. So, if "Africa" is what is wanted, why go to a slice of Europe/the New World rather than focusing on the heart of Africa?

You need to transfer from Serengeti to JRO and then onwards to Vic Falls if that is still the plan. It is going to be excessively expensive and time consuming. Africa is a continent and not a country. Perhaps choose more regional? There is enough to do and see in East Africa. Tanzania alone has enough to fill your holiday time.
